Exploring Life & Business with Nick Duffy

Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
I started in the game of golf playing Kissimmee Bay C. C. as a kid with my friends. I would walk across the street and meet my friends to play golf till dark. I played local junior tours and won many tournaments before heading to college. I wasn’t heavily recruited despite being a good junior golfer. I went to a small school in South Florida, Northwood University (now Keiser) and played golf on the team for four years but never really improved. This is one of the main reasons why I do what I do, poor information and bad advice about college lead to a wasted four years of golf (at one point I was ready to quit). After college, I met a golf instructor at Bear Lakes Country Club and improved my game greatly. This experience is why I coach golf and help junior golfers improve in the game. After a few years of playing professional golf, I decided to work in golf. Flash forward to now, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best teachers in the game and decided to open my own business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working for others and learning from the experience was great, but not what you ultimately want to do. After nine years of working at academies, I decided to start my own business. It has been very difficult for sure made a lot of mistakes, but I’ve learned a ton. It has given me a chance to have more freedom and time with my family.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a golf coach giving in person and online lessons to students throughout the world. I specialize in all areas of the game from full swing and putting to on course strategy. What sets me apart is access to technology and the best trainers in the business at Vault Performance. Being a partner with MMG Performance and the culture and the energy we bring to training every day is what makes the brand so great.

What does success mean to you?
Success in my business is making enough to be profitable but having the freedom to spend time with your family. With my students it’s getting them to reach their goals and find college scholarships.
