Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Andrea Dickerson.
Hi Dr. Dickerson, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I am Dr. Andrea Dickerson. My story began with a dream of owning a successful childcare business. However, there was a problem. The problem was that I had never owned and operated a childcare business before. Amongst other challenges, I had never managed people or a learning environment.
I was an eager 20-year-old that was looking to be successful in business and children were the lifeline that changed my destiny.
My story of HUMBLE BEGINNINGS started out with excitement but after 12 months of owning my first childcare business, I didn’t know what I was doing. I had staff issues, leadership weaknesses, management gaps, and no systems PLUS my I was pregnant for the first time. With so many first times for everything I QUIT. I called my dad and he and I received a buyer for the first location. Well, along my journey, the desire to care for children never left me. I asked God to help me start over again. He did, but this time I started from my home. My small 2-bedroom 700 sq ft home was the launching source of my high 6-figure coaching firm. Today, I help owners with creating proven management solutions. These solutions help owners, lead great teams, improve customer retention, build multiple sites and charge what they are worth.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Many of my challenges that I experienced was overcoming funding concerns, poor credit score, and lack of skill set. Once these challenges were solved through my dad’s help, selling cookie dough, and investment funding I was able to invest in myself and seek out business coaching.
As you know, we’re big fans of IOwnADaycare.comLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
IOwnADaycare.comLLC came from a coaching session. One day while listening to Diana Ross, I’m Coming Out, I decided to let my vision come out. LOL. By this time, I had several business coaching sessions about creating a brand and name that represented me.
The name, IOwnADaycare was simple and to the point. Therefore, when owners read it, they could quickly relate to the term because they owned a daycare too!
What sets me apart is my big thinking and framework that allows the owner to get organized fast. Plus, I don’t try to be anyone else but me. Owners love my cool, down-to-earth, touchable brand. I can reach you, where you are and help you to shift to the next level.
I show owners how to think bigger and how to brand themselves accordingly. I am very proud of our Childcare Boss Blueprint, titled Jumpstart School of Systems. It’s a full program that provides the framework for quick operations setup and success.
