Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Mabe.
Hi Angie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have had a dream placed in my heart for 20 years to open my practice. In 2016, this dream became a reality. I took a step of faith and opened Abba’s Heart Counseling Center, INC. The fear of taking this step was unbelievable, but I put my faith in God, that He knew the direction of my life and would open the doors. I left my previous practice with 20 clients, and by the end of the first month, my client load hit 30 clients and was growing! By 2019, I was getting so many incoming calls that my husband encouraged me to expand. My husband and I talked with our CPA, created a business plan, and watched the doors open. Within months, I went from a solo practice to hiring 5 clinicians. My husband quit and became the Director of Operations for Abba’s Heart Counseling Center, INC. Little did we know that COVID would hit a few months later, and he would have been forced to quit his job anyway. As essential employees, we could continue working in person through COVID-19 and grow the practice. Then, we hit a second expansion and decided to step out in faith, yet again, by purchasing a counseling building at the end of 2021! Since our inception, we have had 12 other clinicians working with us, each with a different background and specialty. My heart is to bless the community and create healthy and strong families through Abba’s Heart Counseling Center, INC.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is not just the pleasant front that you often see portrayed on social media. There have been multiple challenges my husband and I are learning to work professionally together, how to run a business well, understand the challenges of marketing, and how to balance home/work life. Despite our challenges, we have been very blessed and have met each challenge gracefully. We are still learning how to balance our marriage, work, and home and how to be good stewards of what we have been given. The learning process is never complete, and there is always room to grow.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Abba’s Heart Counseling Center, INC.?
Abba’s Heart Counseling Center, Inc. is focused on creating healthy families, which creates healthy communities. Though each clinician has a strong Christian background, we work with people from all walks of life and meet everyone right where they are. Our job is to guide and challenge people to discover their healthy and authentic selves. We aim to help heal past traumas, create strong relationships, and give people hope for a better future. We are one of a few counseling centers working with children and teens. We have a sand tray in everyone’s room, plenty of toys for children to express themselves adequately, and a fantastic art supply! We also specialize in trauma therapy. We have 6 clinicians who are trauma-trained, which helps significantly with PTSD and overcoming stifling emotions. In addition, we also host monthly workshops that are open to the community with topics that range from bettering your marriage, overcoming an affair, becoming a better parent, overcoming grief, and so much more! You can check out our website to see the calendar of workshops we have for 2024.
What do you think about happiness?
My favorite moments are the light bulb moments. This is when a concept or skill clicks in a client, and they can feel the growth and change within themselves. This is hands down my favorite part about working with clients. They feel joy and relief when they see their hard work coming to fruition.
