Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Woodburn.
Hi Bruce, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My life’s story began with great hardship. I lost my parents when I was in high school, and I never made it to graduation. In my early twenties, I lived without a clear direction and worked different odd jobs. Thankfully I have had some genuinely amazing mentors who came into my life and shaped me into the man I am today. Someone who truly inspired me and changed my life was Terry Shoup. He helped me make my name in the mortgage business in 1988 and taught me what I needed to know to start my own business. Later in my career, Terry worked for me at my mortgage company and has since passed away. I have learned from this experience that my ultimate goal will always be to help and inspire others and make a difference in their lives.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been innumerable amount of challenges on my road to success. Navigating through the recession of 2007 and 2008 and now navigating the current challenges we face in the market have been some of my biggest obstacles. I have learned through my failures that being a good leader is not a natural talent but something we know as we grow and understand better how to be flexible and make authentic connections with our team and clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Loan Arranger at CrossCountry Mortgage?
I work in the mortgage industry and have been in business here in Winter park for the last 33 years. What sets me apart from others is my incredible team and my dogged work ethic. My team and I will work tirelessly and try every avenue to get our clients into homes. In the many years, I have been in business, I have had the great pleasure of building a rock-solid team. One of my employees just celebrated her 20th anniversary at our branch; accomplishments like these make me extraordinarily proud.
I could not have built my business without my wife, Michelle. When I met her, she was a realtor; she joined my team in 1992 and is the glue that holds my business and personal life together.
Have you learned any interesting or essential lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One of the greatest lessons 2020 taught me is always being prepared for the unexpected. During Covid-19, my business saw some dramatic changes. At the beginning of 2020, nobody knew what would happen with the market, including me. I was still determining what to expect when Covid hit and made the mistake of laying off 4 people, anticipating that the housing industry would suffer. I could not have been more wrong. We had the best 3 years of my entire career, and replacing the people I let go was a challenge.
