Exploring Life & Business with Carla Acosta of Carla Acosta Interiors INC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Acosta

Hi Carla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The journey to starting my business is deeply intertwined with both my personal and professional experiences. I emigrated from Venezuela to the United States during my teens, and after high school, it felt natural to pursue my passion for architecture at the University of Central Florida, having developed a lifelong interest in construction and design from a young age.

Thanks to my family’s business, I had the unique privilege of working closely with fabricators, builders, and contractors, gaining firsthand knowledge of the complexities of the construction process. This hands-on experience taught me the importance of materials and their practical applications, as well as the delicate balance between design and execution. As I progressed through my university studies and after graduation, I was fortunate to further my knowledge through internships and different jobs that allowed me to collaborate with draftsmen, developers, general contractors, and homeowners. These roles provided me with not only valuable skills but also a deeper, more holistic understanding of the realm of construction and architecture—not just as a design discipline, but as a fully integrated process that requires collaboration, communication, and an acute awareness of how spaces function.

Through these formative insights, my perspective on design evolved. I realized that architecture is not solely about creating visually striking structures; it’s about crafting spaces that foster meaningful and impactful experiences for those who occupy them. This synergy between design, functionality, and practical application inspired me to establish my own design business. The ethos and vision behind it? To offer innovative, design-forward, and fully immersive design-build services that truly elevate the client experience.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think there’s ever such a thing as a completely “smooth road”. In fact, one of my daily mantras is, “Nothing worth having comes easily or quickly.” Throughout our journey, we’ve faced countless challenges — even when we’ve planned it all meticulously. From schedule delays and unreliable trades to unexpected surprises in remodels, we’ve encountered it all. There have also been times when we’ve had to go back to the drawing board and redo work to meet the high-quality standards we set for ourselves and our projects.

But despite these hurdles, we approach every project as if it were our very own. This creates a deep sense of responsibility and emotional investment — and while it can be challenging at times, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is that growth is constant, but it’s rarely linear. Building a small business and overcoming obstacles along the way has taught us that what truly matters is how we respond to these challenges. Currently, we’re experiencing the ‘growing pains’ of figuring out how to successfully scale our business. There are plenty of questions and doubts that arise, but the key is to keep pushing forward while figuring it all out as we go. It’s how we navigate those bumps in the road that define us and, ultimately, help us grow.

We’ve been impressed with Carla Acosta Interiors INC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a local, growing full-service design + build studio, specializing in everything from architectural design for custom homes to full remodels and turn-key projects. One of the things we take the most pride in is our holistic approach to every project that comes through our doors. We focus on creating seamless, cohesive spaces, while also ensuring this principle extends to how we communicate and collaborate with our trades and clients — whether they’re general contractors, developers, builders, or homeowners.

We are deeply embedded in a hands-on approach, never missing a beat when it comes to being on-site, assisting, guiding, and collaborating with every team member. Our experience and knowledge in translating design into reality help us create not only feasible solutions but also designs that are rich in detail and connection.

We view our services as a way to simplify what can often be a complex, multifaceted process, recognizing that construction is filled with moving parts. Our goal is to enhance, streamline, and ease this process, ensuring every project reaches its full potential. Ultimately, we consider ourselves a trusted partner in creating spaces that not only meet expectations but also improve the lives of those who experience them.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We live in an increasingly digital world where we’re constantly exposed to a wealth of projects, trends, and inspirations — sometimes to the point of feeling overwhelmed. With the introduction of AI, many processes in design and architecture will become more streamlined. However, I believe the future will see a greater emphasis on distinctiveness and individuality, with a stronger push towards personality-driven design. Clients are becoming more open to incorporating bold patterns and colors in their spaces, as well as exploring a wider range of materials beyond the traditional wood textures and whites. Textures, steel, and dense natural materials will take center stage in the coming years.

When it comes to architecture, the influence of global design trends is becoming more apparent, particularly as international styles and materials are being discovered and embraced. We’re also seeing a significant shift towards the restoration of older homes, with many clients drawn to properties that carry character and history. On the flip side, custom home owners are increasingly seeking more personalized designs, often inspired by past eras or unconventional layouts that reflect their unique needs and lifestyles.

Of course, we approach these observations from our local perspective, and it’s important to note that “trends” can vary depending on region or state. That said, I believe there will be a significant influx of humanistic individualism in design. It’s exciting to witness this blend of heritage, innovation, and personal expression shaping the future of architecture and design.
