Exploring Life & Business with Courtney Hall of Serpentine Arts & Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hall

Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there! My name is Courtney Hall, owner of Serpentine Arts & Entertainment. I got my start into the entertainment world back in 2017 when I discovered pole dancing for the first time. That discovery completely changed my life and led me down a path of competing, performing and teaching in the world of aerial arts and flow arts (fire and LED). Several years after I began teaching at various aerial studios in Florida, I connected with a group of other aerialists and fire performers and founded Serpentine Entertainment in 2021.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At times it has been smooth and at times it has been bumpy, but such is life right? I wouldn’t have it any other way, because the bumps in the road make you appreciate when things are flowing with ease.

In the beginning, Serpentine Entertainment had a different name and was designed as a fire troupe with the goal of touring Florida and performing fire shows. We were a group of 6-7 women at the time and half of us lived about a 3 hour round trip from the other half, so meeting up twice a week to practice choreographing our group routines was a challenge. Nonetheless, we made it happen and had a successful first show – but another hurdle was finding venues that were willing to cough up the money for a full production that paid well enough to make it worth it for all of us individually.

After a falling out between some of our performers, we rebranded as Serpentine Entertainment and moved away from full production shows and starting focuses on smaller private/public gigs. This is where money finally started to come in, and when I learned that variety was needed, as most people looking for entertainment only needed 1-2 performers and not every venue would allow fire. We started offering aerial entertainment as well, and it snowballed from there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Serpentine Arts & Entertainment?
Serpentine Arts & Entertainment is an entertainment company/talent agency specializing in fire performers, aerialists, and other circus acts. We are passionate about not only elevating events with unique and exciting artistic spectacles, but offering local performers opportunities to express themselves and showcase their work.

I believe that our flexibility and willingness to customize our offerings is what sets us apart from other entertainment companies in the area. We don’t have any minimums or maximums – no job is too big or too small! Our network of performers is wide enough to offer entertainment all over central, south and north Florida and we love to customize our costuming to meet the needs of the event host.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Absolutely! One of my personal favorite books is House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. This question might beg for a self help book in response, but I believe In the arts it’s SO important to be mindful of burnout. Making a living from your passions can be so great, but it can also lead to burnout, frustration and stagnation in trying to manage the ability to continue your education and work on your skills, market yourself, continuously offer new acts and new costumes, etc. A book as mind bending as House of Leaves is the perfect escape from the day to day grind. I love books that encapsulate my mind and take me away from reality.
