Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Nunez.
Hi Darius, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi there! I’m Darius Reuben Núñez, founder and creative force behind DRN Studios. I graduated from Full Sail University with a degree in Game Design in June 2025, and I’m passionately working on several game design projects that blend immersive storytelling with engaging gameplay.
DRN Studios was born from the unwavering support of my parents-whose belief in me inspired me to take a leap of faith and start my own company-and the enduring lessons my dad left me before he passed in
2023. His example of dedication, kindness, and hard work guides everything I do, and I strive every day to honor his legacy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was labeled as developmentally delayed and diagnosed with an anxiety disorder at just two years old. It wasn’t until I was graduating from high school and applying for college that I discovered I had been considered a special needs student all along. My parents never told me; they simply said that I learned differently and would have to work twice as hard as others.
Throughout my childhood, they were diligent — always involved in my education, making sure I had extra help and tutors when needed. When I finally learned the truth, it was an emotional moment because it explained so much about my journey. I asked my mom, “Why didn’t you tell me?” She simply replied, “Because I didn’t want you to lower your standards for yourself just because someone labeled you. And look at you now — a graduate with honors, pursuing your dreams at the university you wanted.”
She was right. I went on to graduate from Full Sail University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Game Design, completing a four-year program in just two years. It wasn’t easy — I hadn’t taken calculus or trigonometry in high school, and at times I wanted to give up. Twice I nearly did. But my mom reminded me, “You’re really going to quit over one or two classes and throw away all the exceptional grades you’ve worked for?” She always knew how to push me forward.
Before I graduated, my father — one of the strongest pillars in my life — passed away from colon cancer. He was my biggest cheerleader. His loss was heartbreaking, but I still hear his voice in my head whenever I start “stinkin’ thinkin’,” as he used to call it.
My mom and stepdad, both business owners, encouraged me to start something of my own. Since I’ve always loved dancing, social gatherings, and bringing joy to people, we decided to launch a photo booth company as a starting point — something fun and creative that could also help fund my future independent game development projects.
And that’s how DRN Studios was born — out of resilience, family support, and a determination to turn challenges into purpose.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
