Exploring Life & Business with Dede Ramos of The Body Lab Pilates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dede Ramos.

Hi Dede, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was first introduced to Pilates while earning a BA in Dance from the University of South Florida. I immediately knew that Pilates would forever be a part of my life. I really resonated with the discipline and focus needed to master the exercises. I had discovered a new way of being in touch with my body through an organized and structured series of movements. I quickly learned the benefits of a consistent practice, as well as the mind and body connection.

After graduating in 1997, I went on to continue my personal training and decided to try to learn as much as possible about Pilates.

I was able to study and be involved with many different aspects of Pilates and saw first-hand how so many people were able to strengthen and stretch their bodies back to a pain-free lifestyle. After 25 years of practice, learning, training, and teaching, I was finally able to open my own studio in Baldwin Park.

I opened The Body Lab in 2021 during a pandemic and also one of the most difficult times in my personal life. Despite what was happening around me, I decided, with the support from many friends and family, to take the leap of faith and finally do something I had wanted to do for so long. I became my own boss! I was finally able to create a space, help clients and teach Pilates with its true intention in mind. This studio is not just a dream that I made come to life; it’s way more than that. It’s a place where positive change happens every day. I want every person to leave their session feeling empowered with their bodies, clear in their minds, and open with their hearts. I am so thankful for this opportunity to do what I love to do!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had similar struggles that most small business have. There are months that are better than others but I feel so fortunate that I have THE BEST clients in town. They end up helping me as much as I help them!

We’ve been impressed with The Body Lab Pilates, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Body Lab is a boutique Pilates studio specializing in private, one on one training where each session is designed specifically for the individual client. Based on a client’s fitness goals, strengths and limitations, we are able to create the best workout session for that person. Our goal is to assist people in making positive changes in their movement patterns and help each client establish a new and improved way of moving their bodies. Longevity of the body and mind and the connection between the two are essential in achieving true health & fitness.

What sets us apart from other pilates practitioners and studios is the advanced knowledge of Pilates in all aspects of training.

I have experience in working with all types of demographics, including the senior generation, athletes, dancers, pre/post pregnancy, and pre/post-rehab to name a few.

My extensive background in Dance, Kinesiology, Massage Therapy, and Personal training, brings all of my knowledge and experience in movement, therapy, and fitness together which creates a unique, productive, and effective bodywork session.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m a pretty open book! Some might be surprised that when given the opportunity, I love to rest! Lounge in bed and rest! I also am becoming a little bit of a foodie. Love good food and good company!
