Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Carmichael.
Hi Derek, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was in property management, and I was doing exceptionally well. The developers I worked for at the time sent me to Ifrec, a local real estate school in Orlando, so I could transition to selling off their Miami’s mid-rise and high-rise. Through a few chains of events after getting my license, I found myself at Westgate Resorts. In that place, I started to learn the business. I started selling many timeshares and realized it wasn’t for me. From there, I found myself in traditional real estate.
Meanwhile, my passion has been mixed martial arts for years. So one day in 2017, I was doing a cardio class, and one of the attendant’s Father showed up to return some gear his son had taken home. I had a training partner who had been telling me about his friend who was building a team making real estate investments. I had been ducking this conversation, simultaneously quite intrigued with it. This person happened to be the gentleman returning the gear. Naturally, we spoke for a few minutes, and by the grace of God, we liked each other and thought it would be an excellent idea for me to come by and check out his operation. I did not know then that I would enter the next phase of my life; I followed up and went to visit the office and found everything I had been looking for; I found a way to sell and buy real estate and invest financially. I learned everything from fixes and flips to rentals and how to structure creative financing to get deals done.
When that season passed, I had built a decent book of business. I took the first year of Covid off as the Lord led me to lay low. Then one faithful day, July 7th of, 2021. I had a call with Kevin Earnest, and I joined his team. Not knowing I would be training and learning from one of the best to do it! Here I am today, learning more and more about our industry and giving back this information to as many investors as I can! I love what we do and plan to do this as a part of my business until I can’t anymore!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I have certainly missed opportunities and lost money. I’ve made many mistakes; I Have grown from them and learned to say no! I’ve learned to be patient! Haha, some deals don’t make cents, don’t force them. Don’t let anyone tell you about the deal; trust but verify!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Haha, I was a fun-loving little guy. I always wanted to help everyone, joking and making everyone laugh. I loved basketball; it was my first love and where I focused a lot of my time.
