Exploring Life & Business with Emmett Dempsey of Treasure Coast Mortgage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmett Dempsey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Port Saint Lucie, FL after moving down to Florida when I was 6 from New Jersey. I graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in 1993. I played on a state semifinalist football team in 1992. After high school, I went to college at Widener University near Philadelphia, PA for a change of pace and to play Division III football. While in college, I enrolled in ROTC for my scholarship. After graduation, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. My first job out of college was in South Korea in the 2nd Infantry Division as a Platoon Leader. I left the service in 2001 as a Captain. After the Army, I moved back to Florida and worked in various management roles.

I began my mortgage career in 2007 with Countrywide Home loans. I experienced the crash at ground level. From the stated income loans in 2007 to full documentation FHA loans in 2008. I then switched to various Broker and Lender shops and built my relationships. I embraced social media and have a growing Youtube channel where I help educate potential borrowers about lending concepts that can be challenging. I also started on TikTok recently.

In 2020 at the start of the pandemic, I opened my own mortgage brokerage, Treasure Coast Mortgage. Great rates and white-glove service is my tagline and mission. As a veteran with a VA loan myself, VA loans are a focus of mine. As a broker, I enjoy having every suite of product. From Reverse Mortgages, Bank statement, and investor loans on top of normal FHA, VA, and Conventional. I can help many families build wealth with real estate through various types of smart financing that accomplishes their goals.

My wife Cheryl Dempsey owns the mortgage processing company that serve our clients. We have been married for over 10 years and we have 4 children, 3 boys, and a girl; Ages 20, 7, 7, and 5. Yes, we have a set of twins.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of Course not. Starting from an early age, my mom died when I was 6 which was the impetus for us moving to Florida. My Dad remarried and my step Mom Evelyn became my mom when I was 7. At age 14, my dad died. Evelyn raised us and we just recently lost her in 2021 at the age of 82. It seems bad from the outside looking in, but those events helped shaped my life and who I am, and how I work and think. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

We’ve been impressed with Treasure Coast Mortgage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a mortgage brokerage business HQ in Florida. We currently lend in Florida and looking to expand in other states. As Brokers, we can shop the whole market with many lenders vs one set of guidelines. We help all kinds of clients. From regular Conventional and FHA borrowers to Veterans (I have VA loan myself). Reverse Mortgages for seniors. Non-QM alternative documentation loans with bank statements, investors, etc. I focus on education through social media on Youtube, TikTok, IG, etc. I present loan options with video and create a mobile-friendly experience. After closing, I maintain a client-for-life focus with great tools like Homebot which tracks your home equity wealth, which comprises 82% of household wealth at retirement. Great rates and white-glove service is what we believe in.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in the 80s. Only now in my 40s do I realize how great it was and watching shows like The Goldbergs. Generation X was the generation that did math by hand, played outside all day until dark, recorded songs frantically from the radio, played all the bad graphic video game systems, and more.
