Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Christianson.
Hi Ian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Ian Christianson, a real estate advisor in the greater Orlando area with a decade of experience in client centered services. My story in real estate stems from a couple key circumstances. The first: when I was 5 years old, my parents were building a custom home in Iowa and working with a contractor to oversee the project. Unfortunately, the contractor was not honest and ended up costing my parents a lot of money and time and they ended up overseeing it to completion themselves. This allowed me to be able to help in certain ways with the construction – staining, cutting trim, sealing, etc. To this day, the smell of fresh cut wood is nostalgic and it was cool to put my own stamp into my childhood home. The second: When I was 16 I moved away from home to chase my dream of being a professional soccer player. I was able to achieve that dream by playing in Major League Soccer for New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, and Vancouver Whitecaps. Playing professional sports meant moving around a lot, however, I’m more introverted and a homebody, so having a sense of home is important to me. Translate that over to real estate and I now enjoy helping others find that feeling of home and doing it with integrity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been unique journey in a lot of ways and I found myself in real estate much sooner than I ever thought. I was just beginning to live out my childhood dream of being a professional athlete when I suffered a fractured foot early in my rookie year. After multiple surgeries and rehab, I was never quite the same physically and could not perform at the level necessary for sustained success. It seemed like my whole world crashed in a moment. Mentally and emotionally it was very challenging to come to terms with. It felt like I had to start life over and I had to learn something completely new. After some time and determination, I took a service position at a local doctor’s office in Altamonte Springs where I honed in my skills of service and care before making the jump full time into the real estate industry. Being a real estate professional requires me to continually adapt, learn and provide solutions to challenges that are different in every transaction.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
While I have many, I think back to all the times I played soccer in the backyard with my 2 brothers. One in particular, we would set up a water slide and cross the ball to one another to score while sliding. Then we would knee slide to celebrate like our favorite players would on TV. We would make a game out of anything and the fun we had together made us all great players. To this day, we still make up games when we are together. Another would be winning a father-son golf tournament with my dad and draining a long putt on the last hole to win. To make it sweeter, it was on the course my dad grew up on in Iowa.
