Hi Isces, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Isces, and I am the owner of Secsi Lashes Beauty Boutique, and this is my story. After the market crash in 2008, the Great Recession hit, and I was laid off from a company I had been employed with for years. I realized then I needed a new start and decided to change careers. I started attending the local Court Reporting school to become a Court Reporter. A few years later, in 2013, the school abruptly closed due to low attendance. I was devastated. A year later, I was on Instagram and noticed the popularity of eyelash extensions; I wanted to try them out, so I booked an appointment and was blown away by the results. I never looked and felt so beautiful; they were so natural in appearance! I was hooked. When I inquired about lash training, I was eager to learn but I had no idea what I was really getting myself into, however I got trained in March 2014. Shortly after training, I started offering mobile lash service while working full-time. By 2015, I was able to open my first lash suite. As the popularity of eyelashes grew, I grew with it, and in 2017 I moved to a bigger location. With the help of God, family, and my supportive clients, I was able to grow my business into a full-service Beauty Boutique in a short period! It’s been 9 years since I was initially trained, and over the years, I’ve attended numerous lash and other training that’s helped me gain the knowledge I needed to perfect my craft. I’m licensed in esthetics and a licensed tattoo artist for permanent makeup. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching others this craft and seeing them become business owners. It’s been so rewarding to see the difference I’ve made In others! As much as I love doing eyelash extensions, I want to focus more on permanent makeup going forward, specifically Areola Dermapigmentation. This service is for women who may have had a mastectomy due to breast cancer; It’s a service I feel will make a difference in anyone’s life. 3-D areola tattoo is the restorative art of creating the appearance of an Areola on breast tissue using realistic anatomical design. I love building confidence in women and making them feel empowered!
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Eyelash extensions are a very tedious process that I’ve been able to master! I initially struggled to grow the business, taking clients and working full time. I spent many long days and nights and gave up my weekends; evenly, it paid off, and I could quit my job after 1 year of being trained to do lashes. It’s not been a smooth road, but it’s been gratifying. I’m happy I never gave up.
