Exploring Life & Business with Justin Mainit of Winter Park Massage and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Mainit.

Justin Mainit

Hi Justin, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We were started in 2017 as a family-owned Wellness studio. Stephanie was doing massage, and I taught private yoga while working full-time in a sales career. Stephanie was offering primarily Swedish/relaxation massage but realized quickly she gravitated towards working with clients with pain, so we started to focus our practice on that. In 2019, I saw how fulfilled Stephanie was helping people out of pain and decided I wanted to join her in practice full-time, so I went to massage school. In late 2020, we were talking and realized we had started seeing a steady stream of people coming in who not only had chronic pain but who’d also been through some pretty traumatic things( sexual assaults, war, domestic violence, etc.). We realized to serve that population better, we needed to understand how pain and trauma intertwined, so we pursued some additional education on bodywork for PTSD as well as a technique called Craniosacral Therapy. We found that we thrived helping this population and decided to make Chronic pain and other physical symptoms of trauma, anxiety, etc, our specialty!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not! COVID almost shut us down permanently, and we weren’t sure if we’d keep the doors open. The uncertainty of COVID-19 made people very hesitant to use close-contact personal services. Fortunately, clients returned in late 2020, and we have kept up.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Winter Park Massage and Wellness?
We specialize in pain relief! The population we see has often experienced significant trauma. Science has long known that trauma and emotional distress are often stored in the body, and we can help people let go of that and be more comfortable in their daily lives. The techniques we’ve trained in are especially effective for people who’ve suffered abuse trauma because we can work with people fully clothed. Our techniques do not require people to undress and be in a vulnerable position to receive treatment! We pride ourselves on being a place where people can receive a compassionate, healing touch from therapists who understand the complexities of trauma, anxiety, depression, etc.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Clients regularly tell Stephanie and me that we give off a calming and supportive vibe. They also tell us they chose to see us because, as you can tell from our branding, we place an incredible amount of emphasis on communication! The key to a therapeutic relationship is clear and open communication, and we make it our goal to over-communicate, which creates a lot of trust and a sense of safety for our clients.
