Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsy Motley.
Hi Lindsy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My career as a travel planner began in a nontraditional sense. My educational background is in international business, foreign language, and the sciences. After completing my undergrad and graduate studies, I was employed separately in the finance sector and as a high school educator. However, I had a passion for travel that started from a very young age. Eventually, the hobby of assisting friends and family plan their amazing vacations, became a full-time career.
Today, I am a planner with Magical Moments Vacations and I have been for 10 years. I have an incredible base of loyal clients who continue to refer me. I also have a large following on social media, with many fans who enjoy seeing my current travels and recommendations, as well as my (very amateur) photography skills.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So many people see what I do and think this job is incredibly glamorous. While it has fun moments, it is a profession like any other and is definitely not always smooth sailing. Day-to-day there can be any number of challenges to pop up.
For example, since we live in Florida, major hurricanes can suddenly close down our cruise ports. Not only do I have to rearrange the cruises for my clients, but I have to rearrange every single additional component that they may have. Items such as shuttles, pre and post hotel stays, flights, etc. If they have already departed from their homes and need to find a new flight to return, that is an entirely different issue as well.
Of course, we all know that the last two years have completely devastated the travel industry. COVID has changed things like I never imagined. However, the future looks incredibly positive as we learn to adjust and safely travel again.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started out specializing in Disney Destinations and Universal Orlando Resort. After that, my specialties grew into other cruise lines, all-inclusive resorts, tour packages to Europe and beyond. As long as the guests allow me to book their travel, then there is no additional costs for my services. I am able to provide as much or as little planning assistance as desired. Not only that, but the cost is exactly the same as if a guest booked directly with the supplier.
What matters most to you? Why?
First and foremost, I love that I can become an instrumental part of the vacation planning process for so many families. A vacation is so much more than simply a trip. It is a time for true relaxation…a time for making memories with family and friends…and a time for discovery. The fact that my loyal clients trust me to be a part of something so important is an honor.
