Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisgelia Santana.
Hi Lisgelia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico very small town on the East Coast from humble beginnings both parents having two jobs each one. From a very young age, I told my parents that I wanted to be a pediatrician just because I loved and enjoyed the charismatic pediatrician. Years pass and I finished high school and college degree in biology and went to the University Tod Puerto Rico Medical School for four years. Changed my path and decided to go into anesthesiologist and pain medicine. After completing 14 years of study after high school, I went back to my island to provide the service that they didn’t have as the first pediatric pain manager in the country. However, years later a new small hospital in Orlando called me to start the first pediatric pain management program in the state of Florida and I moved to Lake Nona until these days. My love for natural and functional medicine grew more and more through the years and I established the first IV hydration and vitamin lounge in the area of Lake Nona in 2019. I initially started as a concierge service going to Homes giving people IV drips if they were dehydrated or sick for almost two years on my days off or the weekends until the demand grew significantly for me to be able to hire nurses and help with the delivery of the therapies. Business expanded exponentially to another level during Covid what prompted me to open the first location In lake Nona.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Many obstacles throughout the years starting from being in minority mainly Spanish-speaking physician moved by herself without any family or friend to a new city a new state. Later having a full-time demanding job at the hospital also wanting to create something unique and special in her community with very little time to build a business from scratch. Later, having a baby that needed me and not having family support has been hard because it’s only the three of us (husband son and me) working together as a family to keep growing. Challenges with Covid And significant exposure, however being protected and vaccinated never been sick from Covid as of right now.
