
Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Hillery.
Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When we moved to FL ten years ago, my wife had a background in Criminal Justice, and mine was in Healthcare. We searched for our new FL home online, and when we came down to look at homes, we choose one of the five homes that we both decided on. The process was seamless because we knew what we were looking for and we worked well with our realtor.
Fast forward four years and my wife was working a job she wanted to quit, and we agreed that would be best. She quit on Friday and on Monday, she was in Real Estate school. A month and a half later, she was a Realtor. I was working in the healthcare field when Covid hit. I was laid off at the end of May and made the decision to join my wife in the Real Estate journey so today we are the Hillery Group.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing is a smooth road, but the one thing I appreciate about the Real Estate business is that the skills that make you an asset include people skills, problem-solving, communication skills, and managing customers’ expectations. Many of those skills we have learned in previous careers and were easy to translate in the Real Estate World. Though my wife and I have never worked together in our careers, we have been married for 15 years, so working together in Real Estate was a smooth transition.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
That no two clients are the same, and that every client deserves the same level of quality service. All customers need to experience the same excellent service whether they are purchasing a multi-millionaire dollar home or a $250,000 home. If you do that, they often become repeat customers and refer others.
