Exploring Life & Business with Monika Fatila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monika Fatila.

Hi Monika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello and many blessings to you and your families, my name is Monika Jackson-Fatila, a mother of 3 beautiful girls and elated wife of Mr. Adebayo Fatila. I am the founder and CEO of Crimson Flow Planning and Production as well as Crimson Flow Weddings and Designs. Our goal and most critical desire is “Bringing Families Together Through Love and Celebration.” We achieve that by planning and producing detailed events that range from, but are not limited to:

-Baby Showers
-Birthday Parties (Adults and Children)
-Weddings
-Engagement Celebrations
-Photoshoot Setups

We have launched Monika’s Balloon Artistry Academy where we educate others on the uniqueness and beauty of balloon artistry.

We are a full-service event planning company that has a “sympathy line” of floral sprays, baskets and plant arrangements that are used to comfort families in their time of bereavement.

I am the Vice President of an amazing youth empowerment organization called Building Powerful Minds Youth Empowerment Organization and recently I launched my tutoring business for children in grades VPK through 2nd grade.

My heart and pure motivation is to see and help my people advance via Crimson Flow Planning and Production, Building Powerful Minds Youth Empowerment Organization, Monika’s Balloon Artistry Academy, and Monika’s Tutoring Services.

I have an extensive background in the Early Childhood Educational field, its where I dedicated 24+ years of my life to somehow be the change that I wanted to see in the advancement of our children.

I love watching students grow and conquer the obstacles that are placed in their path. Building critical thinking skills is paramount in my humble opinion.

Growing in the “hood” as many would call it I have learned what it is to have a grand level of dedication and tenacity; absolutely nothing came to me or my siblings easily. Being the oldest of 6 children was difficult but with help of Christ, I continued to do what I knew my mom needed me to do. I am the firstborn child of Minister Sylvia Baker and the second-born child of Vernon Jay Jackson Sr.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up with a dad that was addicted to many substances and that had an anger issue that was beyond control at times really made it difficult for my mom and the effects trickled down to me and my siblings. My mom had to work 2-3 jobs just to be able to provide for her children. Being that she had to work so often truly left a lot of work in the home for me to do as well the care of my siblings was my responsibility. With that level of responsibility, it drove away from the reality of having and enjoying a normal childhood. Nevertheless, the work had to be done and God decided that I should do it. Growing up with an in-depth speech impediment, poverty kicking down our doors, enduring watching my mom being abused was not easy but I made it through by the power of Jesus Christ.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What a great question you asked about our city, I love many things about the beautiful city of Orlando. I love that even though we are in Central Florida there are bodies of water in which I can visit to connect with nature and Jesus Christ; it’s something about sitting near water and reading my Bible that truly calms my soul. I also love that there are many different cultures in which I can learn and grow from daily within our city.

Now onto the second part of your question concerning what I do not love about our city.  I will be honest sometimes I think that we focus more on the negative things that take place in Orlando because there is so much going on here; but I would have to say there are so many people that lived in our downtown and other areas where many people of color had their homes and are now being totally wiped out and expensive high rise condos are being built none of which can be afforded by the previous residents. Therefore, the question has to be raised; where are the former residents of the downtown area? If their homes are being demolished and the new homes, condos or apartments are so expensive that they can’t afford them, then what’s next?
