Today we’d like to introduce you to Montigus Jackson.
Hi Montigus, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Moved to South Florida out of Graduate School in May 2014. Worked a few treatment center jobs but was let go of my job duties while taking Vacation in Nov 2014. While unemployed at the time I decided to start my private practice because I did not like the feeling of being fired on my day off. So in Jan 2015 I opened Starting Pointe Counseling Services, LLC. I have been able to grow my practice over the last 11 years to one that is recognized in all over Florida. Being a Black Male Therapist, I feel that representation matters. There are very few of us in this Private Practice space so in knowing that I try to give back to and help the next generation of Black Male Therapist. Overall my passion is helping people and I wanted to position myself to be able to help people that want help. I believe that everyone has a Starting Pointe!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been rocky. From not really know what to do to start a private practice or what my value was in this space. I asked a lot of questions to colleagues that had some success in private practice. I wanted to do the whole process on my own so I would learn how to do everything i.e, paneling myself, answering calls, emails, etc. I have been able to grow my practice to 6 therapist including myself. Now things are so much more smooth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a diverse team of Therapist that specialize in treating individuals, couples, and families. We believe and are confident that with our years of experience, that nothing is too large to overcome.
How do you think about luck?
Luck is subjective, I believe good or bad everything happens how it’s supposed to. I do believe that my assertiveness in life has gotten me to the point of being able to sustain a successful private practice. I knew failure was not an option so I went all in. I made the right connections and relationships to help grow my practice.
