Today we’d like to introduce you to O’Kema Lewis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up the youngest of 5 siblings raised by a single mother. I was labeled as the chubby, dark-skinned one. I was not only picked at about my appearance but, I was also criticized about my name. I had low-self esteem and self-worth, and lacked confidence. Despite my mother being present, I still felt rejected because my father was not an active part of my life by choice. I struggled with these issues into adulthood and I got into abusive and toxic relationships searching for the love that I did not get from my father growing up. At the age of 21, my oldest sister passed away and the day after her funeral my mother passed away, a few years later another sister that I was the closest with passed away. When I was almost 4 months pregnant from my ex husband, I miscarried my daughter, Heaven. I was now dealing with all of these issues plus the loss of multiple loved ones. Toxic relationships became the Band-Aid for my wounds. One day, I remembered that my mother taught us about the love of God and I tapped into that. I realized that God was my father and loved me like no man could. I became stronger, confident, positive, and I began to love myself. I understood that what I had been through was not for me but it was all so that I would be able to help the people that I assigned to become, healed, whole, and empowered. I made a decision to walk in my purpose!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road.
Some of my struggles were rejection, lack of self-worth, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and identity issues.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about O’Kema Lewis Ministries and The Queen Collaborative?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Not just going to every event, accepting every engagement, or invitation, just to be in a room. Every environment is not for everyone. Use wisdom and discernment when connecting with people, places, organizations, and/or associations.
