Today we’d like to introduce you to Ria Sandhu and Sarina Shah.
Hi Ria and Sarina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Although our journey as friends started 14 years ago at birth, our journey in business started in 2020 during a time when we were all facing the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. In a time of uncertainty (and not being able to leave the house much), we began experimenting with various baked goods such as cookies, brownies, and cupcakes. We would bake together virtually from our own homes and show each other what we made.
Once we finally were able to come together, our moms suggested that we merge the flavors and recipes that we had each been creating. They let us regularly bake for family occasions such as birthdays and other gatherings. Although we were happy with what we were baking, we decided to challenge ourselves to think bigger. We shared this vision with our parents. They were so supportive and encouraged us to use our Indian heritage to come up with something that was not only delicious to eat but visually creative and distinctly unique. This pushed us to expand our recipes and our palette to offer traditional, Indian fusion and specialty bundt cakes!
With the support and help of our families, we worked hard to perfect these treats so we could bring the Central Florida community a tasty burst with every bite. So, from friends at birth, to now friends in business, this is how “Whip It Up FL” was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have actually been really lucky to have a smooth start to our journey with limited obstacles along the way. The biggest challenge was probably not realizing how fast the Whip It Up word would get out. Once we officially launched, we went from one order every couple of weeks to multiple orders at one time. It has been a learning adventure that took our passion for baking and educated us in the need to be organized, professional, efficient, and collaborative so that our clients could have the best overall experience from start to finish.
As you know, we’re big fans of Whip It Up FL. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Whip It Up FL offers traditional Indian fusion and specialty bundt cakes. Our specialty is bundt cakes, but we have perfected recipes for all sweet treats including cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and select cakes! We promise to bring you a tasty experiment with every bite.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The crisis has taught us the need to be flexible. During a time when people were not leaving the house much, they still wanted to entertain guests and be around friends and families in a safe environment. This resulted in more get together and the greater need to be creative in what hosts were giving their guests. Our customized traditional and Indian fusion desserts had never been done before, so has been so much fun seeing people enjoy the way they look and then taking a bite and loving the taste. Often something looks amazing, but the taste doesn’t match. Our goal is to always provide both!
