Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Janney.
Scott, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As successful business owner(s) having grown scratch insurance agencies over 7,000+ clients (aka book of business) back in 2013 to current. I (Scott Janney) along with my wife (Lauren Janney) wanted to diversify and open something new, something new that was more enjoyable and light-hearted compared to Insurance. Insurance is one of the most regulated businesses in the U.S.
So, as we discussed what our future business would look like (a coffee & ice cream shop), I (Scott) was excited to put up a magazine wall. This wall was to be similar in vibe to Barns and Noble, just much smaller. So, we moved funds around, we started talking to the appropriate people, and BOOM Covid hits, and like everyone else things got shut down. So, we paused our dream and waited. A few months into Covid we realized coffee shops were doing good, they pivoted well, except CDC said: “no magazines in commercial spaces!” I was really bummed.
Couple weeks after getting the all-clear on opening a shop I turned to my wife in our kitchen and said “you know what? It’s too bad a code doesn’t exist that allows one to scan and open a digital magazine rack for without having to give any personal info or downloading an app.” My wife then breaks the rule to never push an entrepreneur’ and asks: “Why isn’t there?” And since then, I’ve been 2 years in the making full steam ahead! Having just gone live with Magazine Jukebox in January of 2022.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been all kinds of bumps along the way, building out the unique features using available technology, funding, and relying on third-party vendors to assist you . . . but I will say this, I believe in the platform, our mission and I love what I am doing. Most importantly I have a great support staff, mainly my co-founder. You need total support!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Everyone should know that we are environmentally clean, premium platform for viewing the most relevant content available while your customers wait for your service. We help businesses enhance their customer’s experience, simply and inexpensively!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always an inquisitive person. Always wanting to learn. As a government brat/ family we traveled around the country. It was always an adventure me waiting to experience something new. I love meeting new people and hearing their story. I was never bored!
