Hidden Gems: Meet Amanda Perez of Purr-Fect Effectz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Perez.

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey! I’m Amanda Perez or better known as Amanda Nicole. I’ve been a licensed Full Specialist since 2012. The Full Specialist license includes: Nail Tech, Esthetician and Makeup Artistry. Where do I begin? First off I’ve ALWAYS loved nails, makeup just anything beauty. I started getting my own nails done at 14 right before my quinces back in 2005. I was hooked with getting them done whenever my dad had given me an allowance (back in the days you know?) I would watch as the lady did my nails. How she laid the acrylic, how she dipped her brush in the monomer (liquid), how she did the cuticle area down to how she applied polish and did her hand drawn designs. I would go to Walgreens and buy those at home Kiss Acrylic Kits just to practice. Flash forward to 2011… I had just had my son and was newly separated from his dad who was abusive. I needed something that not only I loved to do but also would make decent money to support my son and I. I graduated from Beauty Schools of America in Miami, FL in 2012. I moved to Orlando in 2013 after a Domestic Violence dispute with the father of my child. I feared for my life as well as my child’s life being we lived in the same town as his father. When I moved to Orlando things weren’t easy. Starting over never is. I worked for a few places but nothing was ever permanent. Today I’m proud to say my little dream of having a mobile salon/spa is slowly but surely manifesting into reality. I’m hoping to have my own little truck to do all this from the comfort of your home by the end of the year. Nails has always been my fall back with any job I have had. I truly love doing nails and I’m for sure a perfectionist at it too!! If it wasn’t for all this, I would’ve given up a long time ago but i found strength in knowing one day my dream will be a reality and knowing one day my son would be proud of his mom that we made it! We survived!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lord knows it has NOT been an easy road. But God doesn’t give us more then we can handle right? I had so many struggles along the way personally and professionally. I was told I wasn’t good enough or I took too long. I was told I wasn’t the right fit for the establishments since I have so many tattoos. I was told I’d never be hired by anybody for those reasons. I also didn’t have child care help so it was even harder. Most employers didn’t understand. Some things I learned is to speak up when I don’t like something or understand it, NEVER GIVE UP, not everyone is going to support you, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT jeez the list can go on forever!! I’d also love to state that if anybody is going through a domestic violence relationship please don’t stay no matter how hard it is. Talk to a close friend, put that restraining order, live to see another day. I promise you it does get better you just can’t give up.

As you know, we’re big fans of Purr-Fect Effectz. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Purr-Fect Effectz came about while I was in beauty school. We were sitting in class one day and the teacher asked us to write down some business names. I wrote a few down but Purr-Fect Effectz stuck. This was back in 2011-2012. Back then I was only offering nail and makeup services. I have been licensed and insured since 2012. Currently I offer a variety of services as well as travel to you for spa parties, weddings, sweet 15s or 16s, photo-shoots, filmography, etc. I offer nail services, makeup services, lash services, as well as sugaring which is a natural alternative to the traditional waxing. What would set me apart from most places is not only am I a perfectionist but I also can travel to you in the comfort of your own home for services. I’m totally down for all and any nail designs including hand painted art. What sets me apart also from other places is I offer body sugaring. Not many places in Orlando offer that service. It’s normally traditional wax. Sugaring is a natural hair removal process that is made out of lemon, water and sugar!! Dates back all the way to 1900 B.C. I’m super proud that I am able to offer these varieties for all my clients. Book an appointment with me and I promise you’ll keep coming back. I’m super caring and sweet. I explain everything as I go through the process of what’s happening next. I’m very clean and keep everything sanitized that super important to mention.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being as transparent as I can be with all my clients. I believe being as honest as possible with clients helps some understand why things are the way they are. why the rules are implemented. I also feel that my work is quality over quantity. I’d rather spend 2+ hours doing nails then 45 min to 1 hour doing nails and then on to the next person meanwhile the nails aren’t as you hoped they would be. I want my work to speak for itself. Which is why majority of my clientele has been referred to me through word of mouth. Never giving up is something I cannot stress. None of this would be possible without God. I feel those are important aspects for me.
