Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Aki.
Hi Angie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been an entrepreneur for the past 6 years. I left a successful pharmaceutical sales career in 2019 after 18 years in corporate America to enter real estate investing full-time. I have successfully executed over 100 real estate transactions as an active investor and have an equity share in over 1500 doors as an operator, co-GP, fund manager, LP or lender. I founded Ohana Investment Partners to bring the magic of passive real estate investing to as many people as possible so they can grow their wealth alongside me without taking on another full-time job. At Ohana Investment Partners, we focus on multifamily and commercial assets in the Southeast US and the Sun Belt States and development and entitlement projects in Florida and Texas. I also run a successful affiliate marketing business and bring in over 6-figures a year, providing business services and tax credits to small business owners. My goal is to help as many people as possible live the life they desire and deserve by identifying, owning, and dreaming their dreams. I also founded Moxie & Money – to normalize the conversation around money and help women create an influx of wealth through passive income, community, and personal growth. After attending various networking events and meetings, I couldn’t find a community of women having real conversations and truly helping each other thrive in life and business. So, I launched the Moxie & Money events and community, which is different from any other community or event. Moxie and Money was created to connect, empower, and celebrate women in business. Female entrepreneurs are often spotlighted, and we always look for remarkable women to be a part of our community.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I knew I wanted to leave corporate America after realizing entrepreneurship was a viable option. But the road to where I am today has not been smooth nor a straight path. Entrepreneurship can be challenging. It would be best to learn to be everything for your business, especially initially, until you can start hiring and delegating. I entered active real estate investing through wholesaling, which is very stressful and demanding but provided the cash flow I needed to exit corporate life confidently. After 3 years, I realized I built a business I didn’t love. I was serving my business, which should have been the other way around. So, I tore it down and started over; I have been building a business enterprise I love ever since. This started with Ohana Investment Partners; then, I added the affiliate piece to help small businesses with tax credits and other services. I have rounded everything out with Moxie & Money. I love all three “verticals” of my business, but it took me a while to figure out how to build a business I loved. Now, my business serves me, other small business owners, families, women, and female entrepreneurs. I stopped building a business because of the money it would bring and started building a business based on leaving a legacy and living a life of significance.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Moxie and Money was created to connect, empower, and celebrate women in business. We are a community of women who learn, grow, and thrive together. We have. Real conversations. And form real relationships so we can rise together. We often spotlight female entrepreneurs and look for remarkable women to be a part of our community. We shine the light on women, their lives, and their businesses. Women have different struggles and a different reality than men, which we want to highlight. We want to discuss what is really going on and what we are struggling with in a safe, comfortable space. We want to normalize the conversation about money. Money touches everything – literally. I encourage women to talk about money daily – to their spouse, partner, girlfriend, colleague, and kids. By talking about money we can share how we are making money actively and passively, what has worked and what hasn’t. We can learn together so we can all make more money. When women have more money, our communities and economy thrive. We can create change by making more money. This is also how Moxie & Money partners cohesively with Ohana Investment Partners and the business and tax credit services we provide. It all with a mission to help people make more money. The ripple effect is natural, and I want to create a massive ripple through my businesses.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Orlando. The community is fantastic. Finding my “group” here took me a while, but after 13 years in Orlando, I love it! I am a native Floridian and wish Orlando was closer to the ocean than it is. But an hour’s drive is doable!
