Hidden Gems: Meet Brooke McPoyle of Musical Breathwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke McPoyle.

Brooke McPoyle

Hi Brooke, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had a deep connection to both music and breath. I started training in opera at a young age, which laid the foundation for my understanding of how breath impacts the body. By the time I was a teenager, I was using diaphragm-focused techniques while performing intense physical activities. I used to wake up at 7 am, run on a treadmill and sing “dazed and confused” by Led Zeppelin. Classic mini-rockstar in training. These early experiments sparked my fascination with how breathing affects performance, not just in music, but in sports and performance stress.

During college, I played Division 1 golf, and it was there that I truly felt the limitations of my nervous system control. While I could manage my breathing during exams, competing under pressure in tournaments brought on intense adrenaline spikes, leaving me feeling physically overwhelmed. After college, I stepped away from competitive golf, sad & disheartened after exhausting sports psychology tactics.

In 2016, I began experimenting with group breathwork classes, combining rhythmic breathing with musical elements. I was exploring techniques like short holotropic breathing and what we now call the Wim Hof method, but I realized that while these were effective for some, they weren’t always the healthiest for long-term nervous system regulation.

Over time, I developed a more refined approach, integrating my knowledge of vocal techniques, fascia release, and neuroscience to create what I now call Musical Breathwork. This method goes beyond simple breath control—it’s a holistic practice that helps people retrain their nervous systems, strengthen their diaphragms, and release tension stored in the fascia, all while incorporating live musical elements to enhance the experience.

Today, I work with a wide range of individuals, from athletes to stressed professionals, helping them optimize their breath for better physical and mental performance. Through Musical Breathwork, I’ve been able to bring together my passion for music and my commitment to helping others heal and grow .

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth, but that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.

In the early days, I was essentially my own guinea pig. After college I quit the sport I loved because I couldn’t figure out how to control my nervous system under pressure. As a Division 1 golfer, I had moments where I’d completely lose my cool when I was playing my best—breathing became this unpredictable thing, and I knew I needed to find a way to master it. But like most things, that didn’t happen overnight.

One of the big challenges was when I went back into professional music and started a band, we played on some enormous festival stages that awoke that same adrenaline spike, but this time, I knew so much more about the breath and how it affected the nervous system.

As a teacher I had broken away from traditional methods like Wim Hof or Holotropic breathing, which were popular but didn’t sit right with me long-term. At first, I was teaching similar methods to clients, and while they worked in the short run, I noticed they didn’t always lead to sustainable health or relaxation. It took time to shift toward creating my own system—one that integrated everything I knew about the brain, breath, and fascia, while ditching the hyperventilation crash and the fascia tearing methods that left me bruised.

Then there were the practical challenges. Building Musical Breathwork into what it is today wasn’t easy. Teaching people how to breathe and feel sounds simple, but getting them to understand the deeper connection between breath and their overall health—especially when the internet is full of quick fixes—was an uphill battle. Let’s not even talk about trying to explain fascia to people. I mean, who knew that your feet could be affecting your neck and shoulders? Try explaining that at a dinner party in less than 10 minutes.

There were also personal struggles. Like any business owner, there were times I doubted myself, especially when things didn’t take off right away. But I’m stubborn (in a good way), so I kept refining the process and figuring out how to communicate these concepts in ways that were more entertaining and made sense to people. And eventually, things started to click. Now, seeing people transform—whether it’s an athlete improving their game or someone finding peace in their day-to-day life—makes all those bumps worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Musical Breathwork, we’re solving the problems that hold us back from our MIGHTINESS. Using education alongside effective and efficient sequences, we help people feel the tension in their bodies and work with it to create deep, long-lasting relaxation. Like brushing our teeth twice a day is imperative to our neurlogical and dental health, we teach the essential, and overlooked, exercises that keeps your Breath Mighty & Fascia Flowing.

Our sequences are designed for 10-20 minutes a day of training, allowing you to restore harmony to your brain, breath, and body. When you feel this harmony, you show up better for yourself and the people around you. Can you imagine a world where we all walk in harmony, free from pain and stress? I can. And when you and I link arms and walk together, we can bring that vision to life.

It’s not just about Mighty Breath or Fascia Flow—it’s about connecting the dots between your breath, brain, and body. What we do goes beyond traditional breathwork and fascia release techniques by using science-backed methods to teach you to heal yourself by working with tension. When you regulate your nervous system and optimize your breath, you’re not just breathing better—you’re moving better, thinking clearer, and living more fully.

What sets us apart is our fusion of modern neuroscience and ancient techniques. Drawing from the practices of Navy SEALs, professional singers, and free divers, we strengthen the respiratory muscles and regulate the nervous system. But our real differentiator is our focus on fascia—an overlooked system that impacts everything from posture to emotional health

The musical aspect is another key part of the experience. We bring live performances to each session, using instruments like harmoniums, harps, and Indian Tanpura to enhance the breathwork with healing vibrations and frequencies. After all, everything is frequency, and this journey is both a sensory and healing experience.

Musical Breathwork is for everyone. Whether you’re an overstimulated professional, an athlete looking to boost your performance, or someone just trying to manage daily stress, there’s something here for you. It’s not just about breathing—it’s about transforming your life through breath, movement, and sound.

The company is devoted to revealing the rhythmic secret of the breath, brain & fascia tension, so humanity can reclaim their MIGHTINESS nature.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Storytime: For one year I taught lectures multiple times a week, speaking at yoga studios and developing new relationships. It was a slow, hustle but I refined my craft, my lecture style, the exercises I would use, the stories I would tell. Daily, I would put clips of my lecture online on social media. One day I interviewed an “influencer” who shared a sequence they used for social media. Six weeks later one of my clips went viral. I woke up and my online appointments were booked solid. To the newfound audience, I made an offer to film my lecture for those that were interested and asked for a small fee to assist me in the filming expenses. To my surprise, I had hundreds of people send me the small fee, encouraging and financing my first film. The Brain & Breath Connection lecture is a 75-minute film dedicated to revealing the stress loop and arming the viewer with immediate tools to change our relationship to stress. I break down how we can control the loop, and how the loop depends entirely on the breath and fascia tension. I have filmed 5 times now, building multiple courses & a video library I call the “Gamma Seekers Library” which is an extensive video library of all things, brain, breath & fascia. This community is still growing each month, with new podcasts released (the first one is with the famous Bill Meada). Social media has proved to be a huge driving of online traffic, support forum for clients & a means to educated people about a product that demands education. To my delight, my information and lectures were received far better outside of America than I had expected.
