Hidden Gems: Meet Carlos Guerrero of RTT league

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Guerrero

Carlos, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my first company installing seamless gutters at 18, shortly before turning 19. What began with a single pickup truck grew into a thriving business operating nine box trucks at its peak. At 26, I sold the company and took time off to travel and recharge mentally after years of hard work.

At 30, I founded an aluminum distribution company, building it from the ground up over four years. Once it was fully operational, I entrusted its management to an associate and moved on to explore new opportunities.

During COVID, I discovered a love for tennis while playing at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center. There, I met John, Junior, and Albert Richards—passionate operators of the tennis center and founders of the Posh Rock Foundation. Their dedication to the game and their unwavering commitment to helping those in need inspired me to collaborate with them.

That inspiration led to the creation of RTT League—a company built for both players and the community. Together with the Posh Rock Foundation, we’ve developed something truly special, combining our shared passion for tennis with a mission to make a meaningful impact.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been filled with challenges, but they’ve shaped who I am today. When I decided to start my gutter business, I worked two jobs and saved $22,000 to purchase my first truck, trailer, and gutter machine. However, within just two months, the trailer and machine were stolen. To make matters worse, my largest contractor went bankrupt, leaving me with almost nothing.

Despite these setbacks, I refused to give up. I rented gutter machines at double the cost, and with the unwavering support of a dedicated team who believed in me, I persevered. Through hard work and determination, I grew the business from a single truck to a fleet of nine.

The RTT League has also come with its share of challenges, being my first experience organizing events with partners, vendors, and sponsors. Thankfully, Nicole Castro from Glee Concept has been instrumental in guiding me and ensuring smooth, well-executed planning. Navigating city and county regulations was daunting, but the team at Fort Gatlin provided invaluable support, making the process much easier.

Both ventures taught me that perseverance and a strong team make overcoming challenges possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Recreational Tennis Tour (RTT) offers a fresh and exciting take on tennis tournaments, delivering an unmatched experience for players and spectators alike. Unlike traditional tournaments where players might leave after just one match, RTT guarantees participants over 4 hours of play through an innovative round-robin qualification system, that leads up to a traditional draw tournament on the second day. This ensures everyone gets the most out of their entry fee and maximizes their time on the court.

Our tournaments feature a guaranteed $10,000 prize pool on the main draw , no matter the number of entrants, with $4,000 awarded to the champion. Additionally, our consolation tournament offers a winner-takes-all $400 prize, making it an exciting opportunity for players at every level. The main draw will have line judges , empire, ball boys etc. Giving you the full pro experience. It will even have a VIP lounge for the players, that will include cryotherapy, physical therapy and massages , free food and drink , relaxation areas etc.

Beyond the court, RTT is committed to making a meaningful impact in the community. With the expertise of Nicole Castro, owner of Glee Concept, we’ve created Rally for Wellness—a vibrant event that goes beyond tennis to celebrate fitness, wellness, and community. Packed with fun activities and engaging opportunities, it’s designed to bring together players, families, and the local wellness community in a truly enriching experience. All free to the public

For years, I’ve worked closely with the Fort Gatlin Tennis Center, supporting local juniors and providing resources to help less fortunate players thrive. In the same spirit, RTT proudly donates 100% of the profits from this event to the Posh Rock Tennis Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth through tennis and education.

What sets RTT apart is the experience we create for everyone involved. Whether you’re a player, spectator, vendor, or sponsor, this event is more than just a tournament—it’s a celebration of sport, community, and connection.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Mentors often come from the most unexpected places. Over the past few years, my mentor has been my tennis coach, John Richard Ashby. But he’s far more than just a coach—he’s become a life guide and a source of wisdom. Through our time together, he’s taught me lessons that extend well beyond the tennis court. From instilling strong morals and ethics to fostering a deep sense of respect for others, John has profoundly influenced my personal growth, helping me become not just a better player, but a better person.
