Hidden Gems: Meet Diana Graniela of Nalora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Graniela.

Hi Diana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi lovely people! I’m currently a SAHM (stay at home mom), pregnant and have two little wild ones. During college I started selling clothing from my closet to make a little extra cash. It was so rewarding receiving a review or when someone messaged me and raved about how much they loved their items. I enjoyed making someone else’s day, but had no idea how to turn it into reality. Knowing I couldn’t live off that income, I returned to my studies. Later on, when my boyfriend had the opportunity to start his own clothing brand, I was all in. We made it into the chamber of commerce, had our clothing in stores, I started modeling, promoting and going to different events. Then my rainbow baby was born shortly after. Up until he was diagnosed with eczema, everything was amazing, but we had to give it all up. For years I struggled with watching my child suffer through endless doctor visits and as a new mom I felt defeated that I couldn’t help him. It broke my heart to see him be judged for how he looked and affected him in so many ways, especially making friends. Parents didn’t want their children around him, so me and his father believed a sibling would help in his recovery and shortly after my second blessing was born. Some will say the pandemic was the worst, but for me, it opened doors in all aspects of my life and in my son’s recovery. Despite my family wanting me to slow down, I went after all the things I loved as I began to rediscover myself, what I wanted, and what gave me joy. Which has always been helping others. As everything falls into place, I’m excited for the future of my new business, I’m days away from making someone’s dream of becoming a family come true, I am a mother of a warrior, and I will officially become a published author before the year ends… but my story doesn’t end there.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Being a new mom, my son’s diagnosis of eczema was terrifying and eventually me and his father needed to step away from what we had built as his health began to deteriorate. I would say my journey started at this moment because he needed my undivided attention. His pain and suffering was unbearable to witness as he continuously self-mutilated his skin from the chronic itching, and anyone who suffers with eczema or has a loved one suffering knows how devastating it can be. I joined support groups, researched, asked questions, and bought everything you could imagine. As his mother and advocate, I felt hopeless when doctors dismissed all my concerns. Eventually, I would find that my son was receiving the wrong treatment plan, but as the hospital did their cover-up they forced me to proceed with those treatment plans despite them being ineffective. I knew the only way to save my son’s life was to stop medication and treat him myself. I applied everything I learned throughout the years to treat him for Eczema, MRSA, Red Skin Syndrome, TSA, and TSW on my own with no medical experience. Rejected by our insurance, becoming a mom of two, being let go from work, sleepless nights.. to be honest I nearly lost all hope. Luckily with the help of amazing individuals they empowered me to keep fighting and set up a GoFundMe for my son. I was encouraged to make a move that would ultimately save my son’s life and allow me to seek the answers me and his father were desperate for. In these moments, I found my voice to speak on matters I was uncomfortable with and having to fight against the injustices that my son faced and continues to struggle with. Unfortunately my son is one of the thousands of victims of a preventable, iatrogenic condition.

With the transition back to life in Florida, it wasn’t long after that my brother committed suicide. I was furloughed from work, but this time it was due to the pandemic, started a business from scratch, helping my son through his withdrawals, being harassed and cyber-bullied, navigating being a mom of two while starting IVF treatment, beginning some entrepreneurial projects to later find out my pregnancy was high risk. I had so much going on personally with my health that it took a toll. I thought I was alone; and for a while suffered in silence. Dealing with so many different elements and the pandemic, I wanted to give up on my dreams, but witnessing my son suffer for so long his resilience and strength inspired me to be a positive light to others. He reminded me that the worst parts of your life are meant for a bigger purpose and one of the reasons why I began my journey as an entrepreneur.

I hope the biggest takeaway from my story is that no matter how many times life tries to knock you down, you can still get up again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My vision with Nalora is to uplift the human spirit through simple acts of kindness.

Currently, we specialize in clothing, unique handmade items and more. I want Nalora to be known for empowering and uplifting others, whether it’s through a unique piece of jewelry, an article of clothing or a handwritten note.

I’m most proud of my personalized handwritten notes. It’s so unexpected and I’m always happy to hear how much it meant to someone.

Nalora will be launching an ambassador program soon.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality that has contributed to my success has been my optimism. I know that others have gone through far worse than me and we all have our unique journey that will shape us, but I’m blessed to have friends and family feed the fire of my optimism.
