Hidden Gems: Meet Donielle Middleton of Ship Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donielle Middleton

Hi Donielle , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Right before the pandemic, I had just left my corporate job and started consulting, excited for a new chapter but unsure of exactly where it would lead. Then the world changed. Like so many others, I was juggling work, homeschooling, and trying to maintain some sense of normalcy in an uncertain time.

When the world reopened, I realized how much I had missed real, face-to-face interactions. After spending so much time at home, I was craving connection—not just for myself, but in a way that could be a light for others, creating something that truly served the community.

That’s when I came across the mailbox and shipping business model, and it just made sense. People were losing packages, struggling with mail security, and there wasn’t a local hub that felt both reliable and welcoming. Beyond that, these stores were recession-proof—they had stayed open when so many other businesses had to close. I saw an opportunity to build something that was both practical and personal.

That’s how Ship Orlando was born. From the very beginning, it’s been about more than shipping—it’s about creating a sense of community, offering convenience with care, and making everyday tasks just a little bit easier for the people around me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s part of building something from the ground up. Ship Orlando is the first storefront, in-person business I’ve ever owned, and while I had a strong background in operations, nothing fully prepares you for being responsible for everything.

One of the biggest challenges was the permitting process. I expected a learning curve, but I had no idea how much red tape, delays, and paperwork would be involved in getting a physical storefront up and running.

On top of that, running a business means balancing a lot of roles. One day I’m focused on shipping logistics, the next on marketing, customer service, or even handling small fixes around the store. I’ve learned to be adaptable, but I also recognize the importance of building the right systems and support to keep things running smoothly.

That being said, every challenge has been a lesson. I’ve learned to be patient, resourceful, and to trust myself in ways I never had before. The struggles make the wins feel even bigger, and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.

We’ve been impressed with Ship Orlando , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At its core, Ship Orlando is a one-stop shop for shipping, mail, and business services. We offer FedEx, UPS, and USPS shipping, along with secure private mailboxes, notary services, and package receiving. Our package receiving service is one of our most valued offerings—customers can have their deliveries sent to us instead of their porch, protecting them from package theft. We accept packages from all carriers, including Amazon, giving people peace of mind that their items are safe and secure.

What sets us apart is the experience we create. Most shipping stores are purely transactional—you drop off a package and leave. Ship Orlando is different. From the moment someone walks in, they’re greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere—smooth music, a light, pleasant scent, and a friendly smile at the counter. We make everyday tasks seamless while offering a space that feels welcoming and personal.

I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built. We’re not just a shipping store—we’re a trusted part of our customers’ routines and businesses. Whether it’s a small business owner relying on us for shipping and mail services or a local resident who knows their packages are safe with us, we create solutions that make life easier.

At the end of the day, it’s about more than just mail and shipping. It’s about trust, convenience, and community—because people deserve to know their packages, documents, and business needs are handled with care.

How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t just about numbers or growth—it’s about impact and being a true convenience to the community. It’s knowing that what we do makes people’s lives easier, whether it’s providing a secure place for package deliveries, offering multiple shipping options with FedEx, UPS, and USPS, or handling notary services when they need it most. When a customer tells me they no longer worry about stolen packages or a small business owner relies on us to streamline their operations, that’s when I know we’re making a real difference.

On a personal level, success is about balance. It’s about building something meaningful while still making time for the things and people that matter most. It’s the ability to create a business that not only provides financial stability but also allows me to show up for my family, my community, and myself.

Ultimately, success is about making a difference—big or small—and knowing that what I do adds value to others’ lives. If I can build a business that grows while staying true to that, then I know I’m on the right path.
