Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nicholas Healy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Minnesota, I became interested in anatomy and physiology in high school while playing football, hockey, and baseball. Due to my experiences with sports injuries, I decided to focus on how one can optimize the human body to treat and prevent injuries. I studied Exercise Science at the University of Minnesota, and received my doctorate in chiropractic from Northwestern Health Science University. My passion has been to optimize the health of my patients. Over the years, I developed some specific methods I found that provided my patients with the best and fastest results. After years of practicing under other physicians with specific protocols, I decided it was time to start my own clinic.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s definitely been challenges along the way. I thought after chiropractic school, my biggest challenges were behind me, but then I became a small business owner. Although I had the skills to be a practitioner, a small business owner wears the hat of every other department. You are owner, operator, physician, accountant, marketer, bookkeeper, all in one. In the early days as we were building the practice, I worked two other positions part time to keep everything moving until I could step away and solely focus on my practice. It’s incredibly rewarding, but it has definitely come with huge learning curves.
We’ve been impressed with The Healy Clinic, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Healy Clinic is a growing, multi-discipline clinic offering chiropractic and physical therapy services. We specialize in auto injury and wellness, and treat our patients like family. Our chiropractic services offer adjustments, as well Graston, muscle work, and taping, as needed and provided by the physician. We also offer wellness, including high quality vitamins. We don’t just crack you and send you on your way; you aren’t one of five at a time. Your practitioner will focus on you, and know you, and your concerns. We’re incredibly proud of that, and the reputation it has built in Winter Garden. We are hoping to replicate that with the opening of our new clinic in downtown Orlando. In just under two years, we’ve not only survived COVID, but thanks to the support of our community, have grown from a one man show to a staff of seven.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We shut down the clinic for two weeks to help reduce the curve, but needed to return to support our patients who were in pain. However, we had to almost start over. Our patient load was reduced by 90%, and we had new restrictions to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. However, it led to new innovations to provide the same service and care level for our patients, and keep that connection that we all so desperately needed at that time. Our community thankfully trusted us, and we were able to quickly rebuild our practice with the trust of our patients. This led to us actually thriving and growing, hiring when others were laying off, again a testimony to our community. We love being able to contribute to our community and look for opportunities to do so as often as possible.
