Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Miranda.
Hi Ebony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a life coach for kids and a full-time school counselor for a middle school. I lost my position twice this year due to budget cuts. Once in April and again 2 weeks before school started. Working in education has been very challenging, however I’m looking for joy wherever I can find it. I started Miranda Family consulting because of the needs of the parents and students. I feel like I help translate the students needs in a way parents can understand. I want to minimize the gap in understanding all while having a good time. I teach kids about their brain development, academic strategies and coping skills. I also help parents navigate the school system. I also have a therapy dog named Finn that loves working with kids and teaching them to self-regulate.
I want to help as many people as I can Find joy! I love telling my story, dressing in costumes and reminding everyone to take it easy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I grew up in a single parent household with 3 siblings. Times were difficult financially and with that comes trauma. I’ve been unhoused in high school and as a young adult working minimum wage and trying to survive. I am a huge advocate for mental health due to my anxiety. I have struggled with panic attacks and trying to stay motivated to do the things I want to do. I never thought I would be able to start my own business due to not being able to save money or do it the traditional way. I have an incredible support system now and have been able to support myself for some time but I am still very much connected to the life I used to live. I want to do what I can to prevent others from experiencing the same.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a passionate and award-winning professional school counselor with a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) in Professional School Counseling and over 6 years of counseling experience, plus 14 years in social services and case management. I was honored as School Counselor of the Year for the 2022–2023 school year, a recognition that reflects my dedication to promoting student well-being and academic success.
My business focuses on helping children and families build stronger life skills, emotional regulation, and confidence through engaging, practical strategies. I specialize in supporting kids with executive functioning, big feelings, and social challenges by blending counseling expertise with creative tools and activities. I’m known for making learning fun and accessible, whether that’s through interactive classes, parent coaching, or student-friendly resources.
What sets me apart is the mix of professional school counseling experience with a warm, approachable style that kids connect with right away. I’ve worked with students across all needs and abilities, which allows me to tailor strategies that actually fit real-life situations at home and in school.
Brand wise, I’m most proud of building something that feels both professional and playful. Families know they’re getting research-based strategies, but also tools that kids want to use, whether it’s an incentive tracker, a classroom resource, or a session filled with games and stories.
I want readers to know that my brand is about partnership. I walk alongside parents and kids, giving them skills they can actually apply right away, not just theory. To make my services cost effective and accessible, I provide virtual meetings in addition to one on one coaching, group classes, and ready to use tools that turn challenges into opportunities for growth.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I honestly feel like its been good luck this whole time. This has started as a side hustle but my dream is to grow it into something that can support me and my family full time.
