Hidden Gems: Meet Emily Gomez of Melo’s House of Bounce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Gomez.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I was once a mother of 2 that has always worked extremely hard. I had given birth to my first child at the age of 20 and barely saw her with me working a full-time job and going to college full-time. I have always wanted to provide the best life for my daughter. I went to school as a paralegal and worked in the field for 6 years. I met many great people along the way and had my son at 24 while working at the law firm. When my son was 1, I thought of starting a bounce house company named after my son Carmelo. I stayed working in the legal field, but I then transitioned to a flight attendant for a brief period, which I noticed early on wouldn’t work out due to always traveling for work. I returned to Florida and was given a fantastic opportunity by an amazing friend to work in the car business as a salesperson. She saw something in me that I never did or could believe I was capable of doing. While working in the car business, I met my amazing daughter’s father. She is now 1 years old and became a mother of 3 at 32 years old. Working in the car business was amazing, but I worked many hours too many hours that I was raising my 2 children through FaceTime or saw them super early or super late at night. It brought a lot of burden on my family with me always working. I knew things had to change with my newborn, and I wanted to be more available for her and my 2 other children. After letting the name Melo’s House of Bounce dissolve, I finally decided to move forward with my dreams and put them to work. I always told everyone, ” there will never be a perfect time, just do it today,” but I knew I had to take my advice. So when leaving the car business, I started my own tax office company, which allowed me to begin Melo’s House of Bounce at full effect finally. We now own 6 units, concession stands, tables, chairs, and much more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not! I started by looking around and finding the best deals for a new business owner. I was making sure I was using funds in the smartest way possible due to me just giving birth. In the beginning, I would have to put my newborn in her car seat, and she would tag along with the rental drop-off and pick-up. I sometimes had to bring my other 2 children along so they could stay in the car with her to give my customers the best experience they ever had. Once I started growing, I knew Melo’s House of Bounce needed reliable employees, and my search began. I was lucky to find someone after the trials and tribulations of a few others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
When starting the company, I looked at it from a children’s perspective. That quickly changed, not only accommodating all of the children, but we have been lucky enough also to be able to accommodate brides as well. Melo’s House of Bounce has been invited to many wedding expos and conventions, which, believe it or not, has been a hit. We have met many brides and grooms just as excited as the children.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Finally, moving forward with Melo’s House of Bounce was anything but easy, which made me super proud of what it has become! It has allowed me to be present for my children and watch them get excited about helping the family business. Showing my daughters how a woman can work as hard as men and showing my son to appreciate a woman’s hustle! I want to leave businesses to my children and have them understand hard work!
