Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Pelfrey.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As an art history major i found myself falling in love with graphic design as a medium. Graduating UCF in December of 2019, my plans of moving to New York to work for major agencies fell apart due to lockdown only 3 months later. I worked many hospitality jobs to make it by. Eventually finding myself as a designer for a small artist based shirt print shop in 2021.There I worked under Peterson Guerrier, exploring my artistry and expanding my understanding of what it means to own a business. In 2022 I launched my creative agency as a solo freelancer. Offering website development, photography, and graphic design.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business is like driving in Miami and you’re also blindfolded. You’re constantly learning from your mistakes, and striving to do better. Expecting a smooth road from any form of self-employment is unrealistic. It has taught me to be quick, and trusting in my decision making. Before owning my company, I was working 2-3 jobs at least one of them being in hospitality. Learning from the hardships of waitressing, you will always have one customer that you’ll never please. It’s how you handle that customer that growth as an entrepreneur happens.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Maison Blue Creative (meaning blue house in French) was created to house all of my passions in the creative field. The company specializes in luxury marketing for hospitality, businesses, and artists. We are most known for digital marketing strategy, photography, and branding. I am most proud of how the company has maintained its’ original artistic integrity and local outreach. Creating timeless and impactful work for clients in all budgets. We are taking on projects for Fall 2025, and we love to work with new hospitality concepts across the East Coast.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The first person to give me a chance was painter and muralist Peterson Guerrier. He is my inspiration and role model in so many ways. I worked as his studio assistant as well as the designer in his print shop next door. When I am creating today, I still find myself remembering advice he would tell me. He is one of the wisest men I have ever met. Something I took from him was giving kindness to strangers. He has his door open most days, and we would have so many people stop in just to talk with him. Watching these strangers leave happier than they arrived, left a mark on me. Orlando is blessed to have him making his mark here.
