Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Icovitti.
Hi Erica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out as a 5th grade math and science teacher, and while I loved my students, something in me was calling for a different career. That spark hit when I got my very first facial during my second year of teaching. The esthetician was a teacher too, and seeing her work lit a fire in me—I couldn’t stop thinking about esthetics. A year later, I enrolled in a local skincare program while still teaching full-time. The days were long, but I just knew this was my path. By the end of the year, I’d finished my last teaching year, graduated from skincare school, and started working at Be Well Holistic Care.
Be Well Holistic Care was a place where I could really dive into my craft, find my niche, and start building a devoted client base. During my time there, I was honored as Best Esthetician in Orlando Weekly two years in a row, and I fell head over heels for treating acne, eventually becoming a certified Face Reality Acne Expert.
When Be Well announced it would be closing, it felt like the universe nudging me to step fully into my dream. In January, Sugar & Spice Esthetics opened its doors. Around the same time, my friend Dom—who’s a social worker—saw how much joy esthetics brought me and decided to follow the same path. She joined me after finishing school, and having her by my side has been pure magic.
Since opening, we’ve sprinkled a little extra into our offerings: brows, lash lifts and tints, sugar waxing, acne treatments, Reiki energy services, and of course, skincare magic. We’re proud to have won Orlando Weekly’s Best Day Spa and Best Eyelash/Brow Salon, and we love connecting with our community through pop-up events. Recently, I’ve also become an Education Ambassador for Skin Script, traveling to skincare schools and trade shows to share my love for all things skin.
Sugar & Spice Esthetics is more than a business—it’s a space for magic, care, and connection. It’s been a journey of following my intuition, taking bold leaps, and surrounding myself with incredible people who believe in the same kind of sparkle.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, for a brand-new business, the journey has felt surprisingly smooth—but it hasn’t been without its moments. There have been long hours, sleepless nights, and a fair share of doubt, but the love and support from the community I’ve built has made every challenge feel lighter. Even on the tough days, it’s still fun because I get to do it all with my best friend by my side. Opening Sugar & Spice Esthetics happened quickly, almost like the universe nudged me, and every bit of hard work has been worth it—I wouldn’t trade this magic for anything.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sugar & Spice Esthetics?
At Sugar & Spice Esthetics, we specialize in creating a space where magic meets self-care. I (Erica) focus on acne treatments, body sugaring, and Reiki energy healing, along with a wide range of skincare services and lash lifts and tints. Dom is our brow queen—she’s a pro at brow lamination, shaping, and tinting, and she also provides skincare services and lash lifts and tints. We each found our niche, and that’s what makes every day feel like a dream.
What sets us apart is our vibe. We’re not your typical “day spa.” Our aesthetic is a little darker, a little edgier, and definitely more alternative, which gives the traditional spa experience a unique twist.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the community we’ve built. Every person who has come in for a service, attended one of our events, referred their friends, or reposted us on social media has been nothing but kind and supportive. We feel so lucky to have such an amazing tribe surrounding us—it’s truly the heart of our brand.
Sugar & Spice Esthetics is all about combining expertise, creativity, and a little magic to help people feel their best—inside and out. From skincare and sugaring to brows, lashes, and energy work, we’re here to make every client feel seen, cared for, and a little bit enchanted.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that Dom and I have been best friends since college—we actually met working at Tijuana Flats! We got closer with every Taco Tuesday shift, late-night close, and shared lunch break, and our friendship just kept growing from there. I was even her maid of honor when she got married last October. Most people probably don’t realize that we’re more than just two estheticians who share the same vibe—we’ve been connected long before Sugar & Spice Esthetics, and that friendship is the foundation of everything we do together.
