Hi Gemma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got my start in the real estate world about 15 years ago when I became a licensed Realtor. Not long after, I advanced to become a broker under Florida Home Sales and Management LLC. While that chapter gave me a strong foundation, I quickly realized that property management wasn’t the direction I wanted to pursue.
At the same time, I noticed a consistent frustration from buyers during transactions—particularly with the mortgage side of things. Lenders were constantly requesting the same documents over and over, and the whole process felt unnecessarily complicated for clients.
Before diving into real estate, I worked at Digital Risk, where I gained valuable experience in the mortgage industry. That background gave me a unique perspective and sparked the idea to combine both real estate and mortgage services under one roof. That’s how Florida Homes & Loans was born.
The goal was simple: to create a smoother, more efficient experience for our clients by handling both sides of the transaction. We’ve built our company around that mission and continue to evolve with the industry—always adapting to make the real estate and mortgage process as seamless and unified as possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road—but I think that’s true for most entrepreneurs. In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was simply wearing so many hats. Starting a business that combined both real estate and mortgage services meant building out two sides of an operation, each with its own complexities, regulations, and systems.
One major hurdle was building trust with clients and educating them on how having both services under one roof could actually make things easier—not more complicated. There’s also the constant evolution in both industries. Between market shifts, interest rate changes, and ever-changing lending guidelines, we’ve had to stay flexible and forward-thinking at every step.
Another struggle was navigating the early days of running a brokerage, especially transitioning out of property management. It took some time to reshape the business around what we really wanted to focus on and what served our clients best. But every challenge has pushed us to improve—and I wouldn’t trade the lessons learned along the way.
We’ve been impressed with Florida Homes & Loans Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Florida Homes & Loans is a one-stop shop for both real estate and mortgage services. What really sets us apart is that we do both—something not many companies in this space offer. We handle the entire transaction from start to finish, whether someone is buying, selling, or refinancing a home. By keeping both sides under one roof, we eliminate a lot of the back-and-forth and confusion that usually happens between real estate agents and lenders.
We’re known for making the process smoother and less stressful for our clients. Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions someone will make in their life, and our goal is to make it as seamless and transparent as possible. We’re always adapting to changes in both industries to improve the experience—whether that means implementing new technologies or refining our communication and document processes.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the trust we’ve built. Clients come back to us and refer their friends and family because they know we’re looking out for their best interests. We’ve built Florida Homes & Loans with a focus on relationships, not just transactions.
