Today we’d like to introduce you to Gene Garai.
Hi Gene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Geinnessis Martinez Garaicoa. I’m Venezuelan and the creator of Gene Garai. My beginning is the same as any other person. Full of fears and concerns from not knowing what I could face in the journey that it is creating my own style. Here, I’ll tell you how everything started.
I have always had a passion for fashion. Specifically, women’s. From a young age, I liked to mix and match different pieces and create unique styles without moving too far from what’s classic and trendsetting at the moment of getting dressed. Everything started falling into place in 2015 when I made the decision to emigrate. I always wanted to create my own brand and that’s why I started building little by little what is today Gene Garai.
Getting to this point today hasn’t been easy. However, I’ve enjoyed this transformation and creation to the max and I’m still learning day by day. It has helped me to grow and improve several aspects of my life. That’s what life is all about, believing in yourself, pursuing your dreams, and letting things flow. I feel I’m in the place I’m supposed to be but I know I still have more work to do to be where I what to be.
That’s why I’m coming for more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy but you always have to be persistent. An anecdote I remember, was my first trip before I started my store. Defining the style I wanted for my store, was the first thing I thought about because seeing many clothing styles I could choose from, you want to get everything.
When I came back and decided to start the store, I had already established what I wanted to sell. Adapting the fashion changes with the type of style I want my store to have. Casual, versatile, classic, modern, for everyday life. I’m constantly traveling to prepare my collections. To meet new suppliers and enjoy what I love to do every time.
Something I always recommend is that when you are starting, you need to prepare, study, find the suppliers yourself and seek advice from people who know about the field. I had to learn a lot and I’m still learning. That’s what life is about. A continuous learning experience.

Gene Garai more than a woman’s clothing store is a place where I want my clients to relax and take their time to enjoy everything I bring for them.
I love styling them when they are creating their looks and giving them personalized service.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I learned that the most important thing is to be healthy and family unity is my most important engine, it has helped me to reinvent myself and get to know this wonderful world of entrepreneurship. I am another person post COVID.
