Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanny Artiga
Hi Giovanny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Pink Salamander really started 6 years ago when I was playing with different styles and recipes for burgers, just cooking for my family and friends, nothing serious. Then Covid happened, and I started doing it more often. I was naive enough to believe that my burger was actually good enough to start a business. So almost a year and a half ago, I decided to start doing pop-ups for myself with a tent and a griddle, and got myself out there to see if people would actually like my burger. From pop-ups to pop-ups, and with the help of social media, more people started coming and complimenting us about the burger. Our confidence grew, and so did our sales. After a year of doing the tent pop-up, with the help of my family, I was able and confident enough to have a food truck and be able to sustain it and pop up multiple times a week.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, the food industry is never really a smooth ride… especially if you don’t come from it or have never worked in a professional kitchen. You have to learn everything as you go, just the basic things like prepping or the flow of the kitchen. I mean, I still have struggles every week. There’s always something happening, especially when you have a food truck/trailer business. From equipment breaking down to weather affecting business to staffing issues, the challenges are endless.
But despite all the challenges, the food industry can also be incredibly rewarding. There’s nothing quite like seeing people enjoy the food you’ve worked so hard to create. And the sense of pride that comes with running a successful business is unmatched.
So while the food industry may not always be smooth sailing, it’s definitely worth it for those who are passionate about food and willing to put in the work to make their business a success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Pink Salamander?
We’re the Pink Salamander, specializing in smash burgers. We strive to use the best meat from local farms, specifically grass-fed beef that I personally grind. The name “Pink Salamander” comes from a book of symbolism that I received as a gift. I discovered that the salamander represents eternity and immortality, while the color pink symbolizes love and passion. This represents my eternal love for food. Additionally, I enjoy the design aspect of creating a brand, including packaging, designing the trailer, and eventually creating merchandise.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Probably perseverance, patience and passion because you definitely need those for the food industry
