Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeniffer Egas
Hi Jeniffer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My practice was established in 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During that time, I was posting information related to emotional and sexual abuse on social media, and a woman from India became interested in my publications. She reached out and enquired about online therapy services. I had no exposure to teletherapy prior but replied that I can provide the service. That was the beginning of my business. I also had some in-person clients at the time but really liked the idea of providing online therapy because I felt I could be able to reach out to more women with the message that overcoming abuse of any kind is possible with love, discipline and self kindness but this was before the COVID-19 period, so I had many people in the industry trying to persuade me otherwise, including the likes of college professors and other colleagues who advised it was unethical to provide therapy through a video call even more given my specialization in abuse. Initial comments such as ‘What will you do if the signal is lost, if the client needs a tissue, or furthermore a hug’, were received.
By the time the pandemic commenced, I had my teletherapy office established with video call, payment platforms, forms, and a guide for online practices, which allowed me to attend people in and outside of Argentina including many other countries within Latin America. By 2019 I had started offering services in English, which enabled interest from clients further abroad in places such as Europe and Australia.
Then in 2020 I officially launched my website, and since then have been growing steadily. This past year my business was established in Orlando, Florida, which has proven to be very rewarding in progressing it to the next phase. I was also recently joined by 2 others who are supporting the areas of customer service and media marketing, allowing me to focus on enhancing the overall experience of my clients. We now serve three key areas being a) Online workshops for women and families, b) 1:1 teletherapy sessions, and c) training and coaching services for companies.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To pretend my journey has been a smooth path is an understatement. Truth be told, it has been far from easy, and I found myself pondering many times whether to give up and seek a corporate job with better guarantees and a more standardized workload. One of the biggest challenges has been to create a space where people can feel the benefits of online therapy compared to attending in person. This has also been the main point that other industry peers have used to try and diminish my approach. In retrospect, following the pandemic, the number of platforms that now serve online businesses is growing exponentially, which has in turn presented another challenge where I must keep myself and team up to date by ensuring we are using the right tools which continue to impact my practice in the most positive way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business name is Jeniffer Egas LLC Counseling & Coaching Services, providing teletherapy services to individuals, families and companies. I am a neuropsychologist specialized in trauma and abuse, with the ultimate purpose of helping women and families overcoming abuse. I am also a certified ontological coach which allows me to work side by side with CEOs and managers, to help them create better work environments for their employees. My practice is proud to enable a space of emotional healing and personal development guided by an educated and professional team. From providing guidance to an executive that is struggling to manage stress, or helping a victim of abuse, we seek to assist everyone from a place of kindness and empathy. I also take great pride in networking closely with other industry peers and support groups where we can refer clients as needed depending on the case. This way our clients can rest assured that their wellbeing remains our utmost priority.
My services are predominantly focused on women and families, but our online practice is open to anyone who seeks counseling. We have several services focused on the emotional growth of our clients, such as group experiences, workbooks, meditations, newsletters, weekly activities, etc., and have developed a variety of tools that help our clients achieve all their purposes.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The first key lesson I have learned thus far in my professional journey, is that all the time and energy committed to succeeding demand tons of discipline, hard work, sacrifice, and self-confidence to achieve your purpose; and secondly, if you are not willing to ask others for help when necessary, you may end up creating more of a burden as opposed to what you envision to become your life’s passion. Having a great support base of family, friends, and mentors, is extremely beneficial in many aspects, but especially when it comes to starting and growing your own business.
