Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Figueroa.
Hi Jesse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well my name is Jesse Figueroa I am a Florida native Born and raised in Pinehills West Orlando Florida area I am currently 31 years old and permanently confined to a wheelchair until either God does his miracle in me where there is a science breakthrough for paralysis. So you may ask yourself how did I get into this wheelchair? Well May 31, 2016 I went to purchase a beer at a gas station and as I was closing my door of my pick up truck after purchasing the item my door slipped out of my hand and tapped the guys car who has shot me in my face Close Range because of tapping my door on his car. And that’s when my journey as a incomplete Quadriplegic begun of progressive healing!!
So after being discharged from the hospital my first year I completely disconnected from all social media platforms and just went to reading a lot of books and watched a lot of YouTube motivational videos so I can reinvent myself and find the new me! Since my lifestyle has always been Trucking and Logistics all my life because it’s been passed down from generation’s in my family from my grandfather, father and uncles I had to get back into this industry somehow. But God had a different plan for me before I get rewarded with my childhood dream of owning my own trucking company. So with that being said I started going to this rehab center and I always observed the clients that would come get a tour of the facility but for some reason they never came back. So I got curious and I asked the manager why they never came back and she told me because they can’t afford it, so I remember one of the books I read was about opening nonprofit’s so what did I do? Started my own nonprofit called Stanced On Paralysis and started serving one of my callings God left me with life for and serving that purpose is so fulfilling to your mind, body and soul!
Back to my childhood dream now that I have done one of my most radical moves which is opening a nonprofit and serving the wheelchair community. I started writing out my blueprint on how I will execute this goal of mine and pursued it and never looked back ever since. After writing my blueprint I went to networking through various platforms and I found who now is my mentor Shaggy Koche who I developed a very special relationship with who has not only guided me to become a successful Carrier but also making me a better man and person in my personal life. I am in all his webinars with him yup! the same exact webinars that changed my life completely where I became his right hand man and consult new students, new authorities and businesses that are already established that want to move up to a bigger scale in their fleet and company.
So I named my company BigJessExpress after my father who passed away October 31,2015 a whole year before me getting shot crazy how life is! I continue his Legacy over the road while building my Legacy on each truck that has that name stamped to the door on the interstate! So as I’ve been taught from my father and mentor is in order to make it in this industry you have to be constantly building relationships with brokers, direct shippers and freight forwarders to keep your trucks wheels spinning and on the money!! I take pride in finding my owner operators the best paying freight to their specific operation.
I love what I do and wake up happy every day! Because I know that I am helping people become better people so they can give their families a better way of life I mean I love to serve people it’s a gift! And In all of this that is unfolding in my life right now I owe it all to God who has blessed me with life every day to be above ground and be the man that he always wanted me to be and with that being said I’m proud of myself because I found who I really am supposed to be God is truly a Waymaker! I am living proof and demonstration on how his grace and glory brung me to this position in life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most definitely has not been a smooth ride but with the right mindset and God I overcame depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, wounds, different types of pain, not having the right adaptive equipment to gain some independence back, dealing with CNA’s, nurses and doctors that are not compassionate in the healthcare field and really make your life miserable because you think you’re going to get good help and treated some certain way when it’s a whole different ball game and it’s sad that facilities like nursing homes, long-term skilled facilities and even hospitals which I’ve been to all of them and it’s crazy on what they get away with! Even the transportation system for disability people when you don’t have your own wheelchair accessible van they leave you at all your appointments and some never come back to pick you up I had to take a cab one time because the guy never showed up crazy that these are the people that insurance is paying when insurance is a big pain because they don’t want to help you nor pay anything!
But thank God I got a good support system and just truly me as a person I am thankful for myself because I have this mindset that is strong, I have a strong spirit and a beautiful soul that no matter how dark it gets I will shine!
