Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Kukor.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path to Traditional Chinese Medicine wasn’t a straight line—it was born from one of the most difficult experiences of my life. I spent a year caring for my terminally ill mother, managing her medical care despite having no formal healthcare training at the time. I was working in highway construction project management, but watching her journey forced me to reevaluate everything about my future.
That experience opened my eyes to both the limitations and possibilities within healthcare. I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to helping people heal, so I made the decision to pursue either TCM or chiropractic medicine. I ultimately chose Traditional Chinese Medicine because of its comprehensive approach to treating the whole person—not just symptoms, but root causes.
I earned my Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine and have been involved in direct patient care since 2011. But here’s what I learned early on: school prepares you to pass board exams and not hurt anyone. To truly help people heal, you have to go far beyond that baseline.
That’s why I’ve spent nearly 15 years refining my skills through advanced trainings with leaders in the field. I studied dry needling techniques under Jan Dommerholt and became an assistant instructor with Myopain Seminars. I’ve specialized in herbal medicine for complex internal health conditions. Every technique, every modality I use at Orlando Alternative Health has been battle-tested with real patients facing real challenges.
Medicine is a practice—and I mean that literally. It requires constant learning, refinement, and dedication to the craft. My approach combines those nearly 15 years of hands-on patient care with the absolute best advanced training available. That’s what sets Orlando Alternative Health apart, and that’s what allows me to help people achieve results they didn’t think were possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even close. And I think it’s important to be honest about this.
Here’s something most practitioners would never admit: I spent my entire first year out of school questioning whether acupuncture even worked. I thought I was prepared after graduation—I’d passed my boards, completed my clinicals—but when I started treating real patients with complex, chronic conditions, I found myself thinking, “Is this actually helping anyone?”
That crisis of confidence was brutal, but it became the most important thing that ever happened to my practice. Instead of just going through the motions, I became obsessed with getting real results. I sought out the best mentors I could find. I invested in advanced training with leaders like Jan Dommerholt. I studied every case that didn’t go as expected and figured out why. That doubt transformed me from someone who just knew the techniques into someone who truly understands how to help people heal.
The other major challenge was realizing I’d never be able to practice at that level working for someone else. I never intended to open my own practice—I thought I’d just get a job and treat patients. But after working in several clinics, I realized that to really utilize my skills the way I knew was possible, I had to create Orlando Alternative Health. Business ownership is a completely different challenge from patient care, and it’s something they definitely don’t teach in medical school.
But here’s what I’ve learned: those struggles weren’t obstacles—they were the path. The early doubt made me rigorous about results. The forced entrepreneurship gave me the freedom to practice medicine exactly the way I believe it should be practiced. Every challenge pushed me to become better at actually helping people, not just treating them.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Orlando Alternative Health specializes in two main areas: orthopedic conditions—both acute and chronic pain—and internal health conditions using advanced herbal medicine. I treat everything from sports injuries, back pain, and TMJ to digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, anxiety, and chronic conditions like IBS and ulcerative colitis.
What sets me apart is how I approach each patient. Every new patient visit starts with an in-depth consultation. We discuss your ideal outcome, the complete history of your problem, and lifestyle factors that might be contributing. I use traditional diagnostic methods like tongue and pulse diagnosis—looking at pulse quality, not just heart rate—which gives me information Western diagnostics often miss. Then I explain what we’ve uncovered and recommend a personalized treatment plan. We typically start treatment that same day in a private room with a warm, spa-like environment.
Here’s what I’m most proud of: I help people improve their lives when they’ve run out of options. So many patients come to me as a last resort after seeing multiple practitioners without results. Unfortunately, people often don’t think of Traditional Chinese Medicine until they’ve exhausted every other medical intervention. I’ve helped countless people eliminate or dramatically reduce migraines and headaches. I get excellent results with PMS symptoms and TMJ pain. I’ve helped patients avoid surgeries, get off medications, and reclaim their quality of life.
What frustrates me is how little understanding there is about acupuncture and TCM in general. There’s actual science behind this—thousands of research studies validating its effectiveness. But more importantly, I see the results every single day in my practice.
My approach is simple: I treat the individual patient in front of me, not a protocol or a diagnosis. Every person is different, and cookie-cutter medicine doesn’t work. That’s what nearly 15 years of practice and advanced training allows me to do—customize treatment to get real, lasting results.
What are your plans for the future?
My focus is on continuing to get better at what I do—both as a practitioner and as a business owner.
On the clinical side, I’ll never stop learning. I’m always looking for advanced training opportunities that can help me solve problems I couldn’t solve before. Every challenging case I encounter pushes me to expand my knowledge, whether that’s diving deeper into herbal formulations for complex internal conditions or refining my orthopedic techniques. The day I stop being a student is the day I stop being effective.
One area I’m particularly passionate about is sharing the power of Traditional Chinese Medicine herbal medicine with more patients. Western medicine often relies on pharmaceuticals that manage symptoms but come with side effects. TCM herbal formulas, refined over thousands of years, can address root causes of conditions like digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, anxiety, and chronic inflammatory conditions. I’ve seen herbal medicine transform lives, and I want more people in Orlando, Winter Park, and Maitland to experience what’s possible when you treat the body as an integrated system rather than just suppressing symptoms.
For Orlando Alternative Health, my goal isn’t massive expansion—it’s sustainability and excellence. I want to build a practice where I can continue doing high-quality work without burning out, where patients can consistently get the time and attention they deserve. That might mean bringing on another practitioner who shares my commitment to results-driven care, but only when I find the right person who meets my standards.
What I’m most excited about is changing the conversation around Traditional Chinese Medicine in the greater Orlando area. I want people in Winter Park, Maitland, and throughout Central Florida to think of TCM earlier in their healthcare journey, not as a last resort. That means more education, more visibility, and continuing to get results that speak for themselves. When patients leave my practice with their lives genuinely improved, they become ambassadors for what’s possible with this medicine.
Ultimately, my plan is simple: keep refining my craft, keep helping people heal through acupuncture and herbal medicine, and build something sustainable that allows me to practice medicine the way it should be practiced for years to come.
