Hi Justen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Justen Borrero. I am a 36 yr. old, Puerto Rican, born and raised in The Bronx, NY. I have been tattooing for about 20 years now. I began painting from a very early age and branching to new mediums as I got older. At the age of 13 I began airbrushing, anything from t shirts to cars and motorcycles. I was always challenging myself so after getting my first tattoo at 16 I found my passion for tattoos. At 17 I began my journey into tattooing. Like many in the beginning it was difficult. As my experience grew I became more comfortable, eventually finding a style that I love to do. I now specialize in Realism tattoos. It has taught me many things and continues to challenge me everyday and there Is always more to learn. I have met some great people in the industry along the way. I now have the pleasure of owning Modified Tattoo Gallery In Orlando, Florida.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has had its ups and downs. I was young when I started, I was lucky to get licensed and work at a studio at 17 years old. Starting at such a young age it was no surprise no one took me serious until about my 5th year tattooing. I was always serious about my craft and finding the right environment was hard. Moving from shop to shop and always starting over was stressful since I am a creature of habit and I like consistency.As the years past I made the decision to move to florida which was difficult but I made it happen. Working with like minded artist who strive to learn and work in a comfortable environment was always qualities I looked for in a tattoo studio.

Modified Tattoo gallery is a family-owned tattoo studio it consists of me, my wife Stephanie Castillo (Steph Modified), my sister Kiara Borrero, Mathew Henceroth, and Stephanie Irrizarry. What makes us unique is that we provide an array of styles from traditional all the way to realism, Japanese, and so on. We also offer skin correction with the service of laser tattoo removal to lighten or remove your tattoo for a cover up or just to remove it fully. I have been working along side my wife for 12 years and the rest of our crew for 7+ years. I like to think we have the longest-lasting crew as we have not had any artists leave our studio. We are very consistent and well-trusted. We strive to have a clean, comfortable, safe environment for all. We are currently remodeling as we always strive to keep our studio upgrading and modern.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
High school senior trip a lot happened that year, but it was the first time I traveled alone without my parents. We went to a ranch during the winter and it snowed. We got to hang out in the indoor pools, go skiing and paintball in the snow, partying threw out the hotel with all my friends from school it was epic.
