Hi Kadisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Some might find it strange, but my first time knowing what I would want to do for the rest of my life happened when I initially received my first wax. I found the entire process satisfying so I asked the waxer who was taking care of me to inform me on how to go about going to school for it. She did, and a few years later I went. While in school I learned many other things but nothing swayed me from waxing. I’m very passionate about it and it shows all the time. Sometimes I truly have to stop myself from going on and on about it. The last six months of school I worked for a European Wax Center before I decided to venture out and work for myself. My plan had always been to work there first to get an idea of the business as a whole and also to see what I didn’t want for my own business. On my way home from work one day, I passed a cute studio-like building with a FOR RENT sign on it and told myself if it was still there at the end of the year when I was finished with school and could afford to pay the rent it was meant to be and I would lock it in – and it was! Within the six months I worked at EWC I quickly realized I had a passion for Intimate waxing in particular and made it my focus. I also noticed that the industry lacked intimate self-care options for women who had skin issues like acne and ingrown hairs on their private areas. Whether these skin issues happened due to choice of hair removal, genetics, hormones, or even just their everyday lifestyle, women really didn’t have somewhere to go and treat these areas. (Vagina, Butt. Inner Thighs, Underarms) That’s when Intimate Fairy Wax Spa was born. My Grand opening was January 4, 2021. My spa offers everything from intimate waxing to intimate skincare treatments such as Vagacials for your Vulva, Intimate Bleaching, Ingrown Treatments, Butt facials, and more. The best part is I only cater to women. I started off with less than a handful of clients and used what I had saved to start my business. I started introducing the treatments & word of mouth is the reason I truly grew in my first year. Anything I didn’t know I researched and still do and honestly, I’m just enjoying it taking it one day at a time.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not! The road to success is never smooth but it hasn’t been a struggle either. Of course, since I knew absolutely nothing about running a business, I had to make sure I had all the proper licenses to avoid any issues with the state but besides that, honestly yes. I’ll put it like this. I love what I do so much it never feels like work, but I must say using social media to market my business gets me out of my comfort zone every time because I personally don’t use it often and I know that if I was better at it, I would have more fun with it, and work it to my advantage with my business. In that same aspect though, I’m able to get up every day and be presented with the opportunity to challenge myself and learn something new and get out of my comfort zone more, so I just embrace those mini-challenges as they come. I do believe running a business requires that especially when you want it to elevate.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Intimate Fairy is a day wax spa where you experience luxury wax and body treatments on your private areas. What sets me apart is a number of things. I do not wax everyone and everywhere on the body. I only cater to women and the areas on the body that tend to be neglected the most. My clients’ reviews on google reflect the quality of my waxing to be an amazing experience. So, a typical wax lasts most clients 4 weeks at commercial wax centers. My wax can last you up to 6 weeks. That’s approximately a month and a half but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’ve had a few girls show minimal growth at 2 months. I’m very big on a clean finish. I do not rush my waxes and I incorporate skincare into them. I take care of concerns women have on these areas (unwanted hair, hyperpigmentation, acne, blackheads) just to name a few, and correct them through waxing, and different types of skin care treatments. My most popular treatment are my vagacials because they deal with the vulva. I have transformed a few vulvas that suffered with acne & ingrown hairs to glowing skin and that’s always the most rewarding feeling for me. I also offer intimate bleaching, intimate coloring for my girls who rave, Vajazzling, & even Mommy Baby Belly Facial! The list goes on. Like I really enjoy making other women feel good about themselves and although waxing is a luxury, skincare isn’t. The biggest feedback I get all the time is that what I’m doing is very necessary and not out there enough and I know that. Now women know there is a place for them to come and splurge on their private areas because for most women its very necessary but was never available to them. I am also extremely big on educating my clients on their intimate areas and any concerns they may have, making certain topics easy to talk about, spreading awareness. I get private areas is not a hot topic to talk about but the proper care of it should be. Most importantly my treatment services are not just for women who wax. They cater to all women, no matter their choice of hair removal.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see a lot of major things happening for Intimate Fairy. I definitely would like to employ other women who are passionate about intimate waxing and skincare and expand by then, making a difference in the industry, continuing to educate women but on a larger scale, travelling state to state and abroad.
