Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Grandma’s Hands Hair Care has built its foundation on Healing, Wholeness, and Health. The all natural hair care company was founded by me, Kayla Delores Brown. I was inspired to manufacture this hair growth oil with the based formula that my grandma, Delores used to keep my hair healthy! At the time when I started mixing this the formula, I had no interest in it becoming a business. I actually used it on myself in college! I graduated from Florida A&M University and all of my friends saw the results and immediately told me to launch the product!
As I continued to learn about my hair and texture, I enhanced this product to what it is today! Our product is hand-made with love and it is completely all natural. Being that our main principle is Healing, every hair growth oil that you receive will be prayed over. We obviously want growth in your strands, but also in your life! The vision for the product comes from 2 Peter 3:18 and this scripture is on the back of each product you purchase.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running a business has been rewarding, but the journey certainly hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles has been managing finances while scaling up. Initially, there was a fine balance between investing in growth and maintaining cash flow for day-to-day operations. Like many small businesses, we faced struggles with securing sufficient funding or credit to fuel expansion plans while ensuring we didn’t overextend ourselves financially.
Another challenge was adjusting our operations to accommodate growth. As we scaled, we had to streamline our processes to handle an increased volume of work. The increased costs that come with scaling—whether for marketing, product development, or talent acquisition—required careful financial planning.
We also had to deal with market fluctuations and changes in customer demands, which made it essential to have a flexible financial strategy. Adapting to these shifts often meant pivoting quickly, reallocating resources, and sometimes even scaling back temporarily to ensure long-term stability.
Despite these obstacles, each challenge presented valuable lessons, helping us refine our approach to financial management and scalability. Now, we’re better positioned to handle growth strategically, and our experience has made us more resilient.
