Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Devine.
Hi Kim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a Clinical Social Worker for 19 years, and I have had many different jobs within the profession. In 2009, I was working at a federally funded healthcare center in New Hampshire, where I provided individual counseling. I remember that I had this teenage client that would come into my office and just stare at me. She didn’t want to talk at all. One day, I told her to leave her coat on because we were going for a walk. On that walk, she started to open up and talk! That was the beginning of me offering walk/talk therapy to my clients.
Private practice has always been a goal of mine and finally in 2018, I opened Get Off the Couch Counseling, LLC. Originally, I was not going to have a physical office because I had planned to only offer walk/talk therapy, but I then experienced my first summer in Florida and decided that was not practical! Get Off the Couch Counseling, LLC offers therapy in both a traditional office setting as well as walk/talk therapy for those who want a more active approach. In 2019, I outgrew my tiny office and moved into a much larger space. Now Get Off the Couch Counseling has three therapists and a dietitian!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Amazingly it has been fairly smooth. Of course, Covid-19 brought on some new challenges with making sure I could offer telehealth services to my clients and making sure it was HIPPA compliant. The increased volume of people who want/need services has at times, been overwhelming. This is why I have brought on other therapists into my practice, I really want to be able to help people!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Get Off the Couch Counseling?
We believe in the mind/body connection; therefore, we provide both mental health and nutrition/dietary counseling services to adolescents (12+) and adults. We work with our clients to build upon their strengths to help them reach their goals.
We provide mental health counseling services for a wide range of challenges that you might be facing, including and not limited to: depression, anxiety, stress, grief/loss, trauma, relationship issues, and general life adjustments. We provide individual therapy in a traditional office setting as well as offer Walk/Talk Therapy, which is a more active approach. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) Therapy is also available and it can help people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that they are experiencing as a result of a trauma or disturbing life experiences. Someone who has experienced trauma can have difficulty processing this event and it can cause the brain to get “stuck” or “blocked” in its ability to process information. This “block” can cause great suffering by the person having to relive this trauma/disturbing event over and over again. This “block” can also affect how the person view themselves, their world around them and how they relate to other people. EMDR can help clients break through the emotional blocks.
Our Registered Dietitian provides nutrition/dietary counseling services to help our clients manage or reach their nutritional/dietary goals. Some of these goals can include but not limited to: general nutritional assistance, weight loss, and managing chronic diseases (renal, diabetic & heart, to name a few).
Pricing:
- Our private pay rate is $95 for a full 60 minute session
- We have a MFT student intern who provides counseling services at a sliding fee rate of $30-50.
