Hidden Gems: Meet Lastree Lemene of Ready Set Declutter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lastree Lemene.

Hi Lastree, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Where do I start? I grew up in Haiti, moved to the US in my late teens, and finished high school in Gainesville. I graduated from the University of Florida and most of my career has been in nonprofits. I love serving others and leaving them better than I found them. This has been the motivator behind every endeavor I’ve undertaken.

Ready Set Declutter was born out of that desire; I wanted to help others find more peace in their home.

As someone who’s loved people who battle mental illness and as someone who has lived with anxiety and depression, I’ve seen the way clutter and disorganization can worsen the symptoms. On one hand, you lack the motivation or get overwhelmed and on the other, the disorganization adds to your mental chaos. Phew.

Years ago, I participated in a decluttering challenge and it helped me work on my relationship with things. I realized through that process that we hold onto things way past their due date (this applies to mental clutter, too). My aha moment came when I noticed how much a clearer space also helped with a clearer mind.

Fast forward to 2020 when like many, I spent a lot more time at home. I started decluttering and organizing and helping friends, too. I saw the joy on their face when they saw their new space. I’ve always had the eye for detail, the ability to quickly evaluate a space and think of ways to maximize it, and the skill and creativity to add the wow factor. But I never knew this was a gift I could share.

After a bit of research, prayer, planning, and coaching, Ready Set Declutter, LLC was born and we’ve been transforming spaces and lives since January 2021!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be quite honest, it has been smoother than I anticipated. I credit that to the fact that even though it’s a business, the work I’m able to do is truly transformational. The hardest part has been learning how to manage all the business hiccups without having much business acumen. However, I’m blessed with a network of support and resources and I’m not afraid to reach out and ask questions.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ready Set Declutter?
Ready Set Declutter helps people from all walks of life find more peace and clarity in their homes and lives via decluttering and organizing. Past clients have said that what sets me apart is my professionalism, kindness, and approach; truly being able to make a difference in their life as we work together. To me that’s invaluable. It’s honestly what I am most proud of. When I work in a space, my goal is to be the gentle coach who helps you through the disorganization in a way that’s easy and enjoyable. We work with closets, pantries, bathrooms, playrooms, home offices, and more.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I’d say what matters most to me is making an impact. And it doesn’t have to be some grand gesture or accomplishment. My answer to this question can be best answered with this quote by Mother Teresa: “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples”. Creating small ripples of goodness wherever I go – that’s what matters to me.
