Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Heredia
Hi Laura, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. In 2005, my parents and I migrated to the US due to persecution from the Colombian guerrilla. I was 15 years old at the time. Despite starting over with nothing, I quickly learned English and excelled in school, eventually earning a full-ride scholarship to the University of Central Florida in Orlando. I graduated with a major in Finance and International Business.
I spent about seven years working in sales and revenue management with hotels before opening my small business, Acazza, a vacation home property management company. However, the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the tourism industry, prompting me to pivot my career in early 2020. I decided to continue with Acazza but as a Realtor.
I joined NACA (Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America), a non-profit organization that provides affordable homeownership on a large scale for individuals who have been historically prevented from accumulating wealth and achieving housing stability. NACA’s Purchase Program offers access to a mortgage with no down payment, no closing costs, no PMI, no fees, and a below-market fixed rate.
Through my work with NACA, I have gained immense knowledge of the real estate homebuying process and have been able to advocate for individuals who might otherwise never have the opportunity to become homeowners.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced is embracing a brand new culture and language to succeed as a hispanic business woman.
I’ve had to work twice as hard as my counterparts just to earn the same recognition.
I’ve had to start over and over several times (from moving a lot to switchng careers) in order to find my true passion in life
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a Real Estate agent, I am widely recognized as an advocate, particularly for single mothers striving to become homeowners. My career has been dedicated to working with programs that provide affordable homeownership opportunities for median to low-income families.
I take pride in my mission to help clients become homeowners, especially when others have turned them away, claiming they “don’t qualify.” Being a full-time agent, I have built a successful career through a large referral base. Once you become my client, you will likely recommend me to others.
I want readers to know that I bring immense value to the table. I love serving customers, excel at problem-solving, and will relentlessly advocate for my clients until they receive the keys to their own homes.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor in real estate can significantly accelerate your learning and career growth.
My Mentor is my Broker, she was the top agent in Florida for the company I worked for so:
-I looked for someone with a proven track record of success in the area I was learning.
-I clearly voiced my goals to her in order to recieve tailored feedback.
– A good mentor should be approachable and willing to invest time in your development.
– Demonstrate your commitment to the industry and your willingness to put in the hard work. Mentors are more likely to invest in mentees who show dedication.
-Always express appreciation for your mentor’s time and guidance. A thank you can go a long way.
