Hi Madison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Madison Celt, and my fiancé, Mohammed Rahman, is my partner not just in life but also in business. Our journey into business ownership is one of curiosity, risk-taking, and relentless hard work.

I grew up immersed in entrepreneurship, with my parents running a successful veterinary clinic and my mom managing a large animal rescue. Watching her juggle these responsibilities taught me the importance of dedication, resilience, and passion for serving others. Similarly, Mohammed was raised in a family of entrepreneurs, as his family owns and operates several highly profitable gas stations and convenience stores. Growing up, he witnessed firsthand what it takes to build and sustain successful businesses, and that experience fueled his entrepreneurial spirit.

In addition to his business background, Mohammed holds a degree in engineering, which shaped his analytical mindset and problem-solving skills. His engineering expertise has been invaluable in streamlining operations and identifying innovative ways to improve efficiency. Interestingly, it was Mohammed who discovered the salon business and saw its potential. His keen eye for opportunity and our shared passion for business led us to take the leap and invest in Aviles Hair Studio and Spa, turning it into the thriving business it is today.

I’ve always been passionate about business and marketing, which led me to a career as the Executive Director of a digital marketing company specializing in the aesthetics industry. My experience in digital marketing, branding, and customer acquisition equipped me with the tools to help businesses grow, and I knew I could bring that expertise to our ventures.

At Aviles Hair Studio and Spa, we provide high-quality hair services while fostering a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel relaxed and cared for. Beyond that, we’ve focused on modernizing how salons engage with clients, using innovative digital marketing strategies to build strong brands and loyal customer bases. By combining industry expertise with cutting-edge marketing tactics, we’ve set ourselves apart and driven measurable success.

What I’m most proud of is the rapid growth and success we’ve achieved, even with the inherent risks of business ownership. Together, Mohammed and I have scaled our business, created jobs, and positively impacted the local community. Mohammed’s ability to analyze trends and improve operational efficiency, paired with my marketing and branding skills, has allowed us to take calculated risks and continuously evolve.

Our brand is built on integrity, hard work, and a genuine passion for serving people. We strive to deliver not only exceptional services but also unforgettable experiences. We value our relationships with clients and aim to ensure they feel valued and appreciated with every visit.

Looking ahead, my goal is to continue learning, growing, and finding new ways to serve our community and clients while making an impact in the industry. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Taking over an existing salon as young entrepreneurs at just 26 and 27 has been a whirlwind of challenges and growth. Aviles Hair Studio and Spa was already established, but stepping in as new owners meant navigating the complexities of maintaining what worked while introducing modern updates to meet evolving client expectations.

One of our first challenges was building trust and respect with the existing team. Many of the stylists had been with the salon for years, and understandably, there was uncertainty about how we would lead. As young business owners, we had to prove not only our capabilities but also our commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. By listening to the team’s feedback, communicating openly, and leading with integrity, we gradually earned their confidence.

Another major hurdle was modernizing the salon’s operations to bring it into the digital age. While the salon had a loyal client base, it lacked the digital tools and strategies needed to grow in today’s fast-paced world. We implemented an online booking system, enhanced our social media presence, and built targeted marketing campaigns to attract new clients. Utilizing platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Google Ads, we showcased the salon’s services, client transformations, and promotions to engage a broader audience.

Incorporating digital marketing has not only modernized our salon but also allowed us to compete at a higher level. We leveraged tools like client email lists and retargeting ads to ensure personalized communication and retention. At the same time, we faced skepticism about our age. Many wondered if two young professionals in their 20s could manage the financial and operational demands of running a salon. We carefully managed expenses, optimized workflows, and invested in areas we knew would drive long-term growth, like staff training and marketing.

Our age turned out to be an advantage when it came to embracing innovation. With my background in digital marketing and branding, and my fiancé’s analytical expertise as an engineer, we brought fresh ideas to the salon. We revamped the salon’s image, ensuring it resonated with modern clients while maintaining its core values.

The result? A salon that bridges the gap between tradition and modernity, offering high-quality services in an environment that feels contemporary and engaging. We’ve created a seamless digital experience for clients while maintaining the personal touch that keeps them coming back.

These challenges have taught us resilience, adaptability, and the value of forward-thinking leadership. The COVID-19 crisis was an eye-opener for us and many in the beauty and wellness industry. During the shutdowns, salons and spas were deemed non-essential businesses, which meant we couldn’t open our doors to clients. This sudden halt not only affected our revenue but also highlighted how deeply our services are intertwined with people’s sense of self-care and well-being.

One of the most important lessons we learned was the significance of adaptability. When we couldn’t serve clients in person, we focused on building stronger digital connections through social media and virtual consultations, sharing haircare tips, product recommendations, and engaging content to stay connected with our community. These efforts not only kept our brand top-of-mind but also strengthened the bond we have with our clients.

Another key takeaway was the importance of financial planning and operational flexibility. The crisis reinforced the need to have contingency plans in place, including savings for unexpected situations, and to explore alternative revenue streams, such as retail product sales.

On a deeper level, we realized just how much our industry contributes to people’s mental health and confidence. Clients expressed how much they missed the experience of visiting the salon—not just for the services but for the sense of normalcy, connection, and self-care it provides. This reaffirmed our mission to create a space where people feel relaxed, cared for, and confident.

The challenges of the pandemic were immense, but they also gave us the opportunity to reflect, innovate, and grow. We emerged with a greater appreciation for our work and a stronger commitment to delivering exceptional service, no matter the circumstances. It was a tough time, but it also reminded us of the resilience of our industry and the profound impact we have on the lives of our clients.
