Hidden Gems: Meet Marie Martinat of Martinat French American School

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Martinat

Hi Marie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been passionate about bilingual education, both as an educator and as a lifelong learner. My journey began as a teacher in France, where I worked extensively with young children in early education. Through teaching in different settings, I recognized the unique advantages that bilingual education provides in shaping open-minded, culturally aware individuals. Moving to the United States sparked my dream to establish a school where the French and American educational philosophies could merge to create an immersive, bilingual environment. Now, the Martinat French American School is set to open here in Orlando, fulfilling my vision of bringing a multicultural learning experience to the heart of this vibrant city.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth! The process of moving to the U.S. and navigating the legal and business aspects of opening a school as a foreign entrepreneur has presented quite a few challenges. Securing funding, finding a suitable location, and understanding all the visa requirements were complex, often stressful tasks. At times, it felt overwhelming, especially while managing other responsibilities, but each challenge reinforced my commitment to this project. I knew that the end goal was worth it, and the support of the community and my team made all the difference.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Martinat French American School is a unique bilingual institution offering a robust curriculum in both French and English. We provide immersive instruction from nursery (2.5 years old) through first grade levels, combining the strengths of the French curriculum with the American approach to interactive and inclusive learning. What sets us apart is our commitment to nurturing curiosity, respect for diversity, and global citizenship among our students. We’re proud to offer a space where children can truly flourish in a multilingual and multicultural setting. Our focus is on small class sizes, dedicated bilingual teachers, and a curriculum that supports social, emotional, and academic growth.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I’d say to anyone starting a business, especially abroad, to prepare for obstacles but not to be discouraged by them. Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision. Finding mentors and experts who understand the local landscape is essential, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance. I also learned that self-care is key; taking care of your well-being allows you to remain focused, even in challenging times.
