Today we’d like to introduce you to Matias Falckenheiner.
Hi Matias, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During the Pandemic, I found myself with much free time (as most of us did). In an attempt to pick up one of my old hobbies (photography) I found myself brainstorming ways to justify buying a camera. The main reason I stopped was because my old camera had broken. This camera had much sentimental value as it was a gift from my grandfather that passed away during the pandemic. He had an incredibly strong passion for two things, photography, and business. He had always wished one of his children/grandchildren would’ve pick up the hobby but none of them did. Reigniting my hobby of photography allowed me to feel closer to my grandfather in a moment that I needed it most.
I figured the only way I could justify buying a camera was if it paid itself. This lead me down the rabbit hole of different money-making methods with a camera. I recognized that during the pandemic taking images with people or at events would not be feasible. This lead me to real estate photography. When shooting homes, they are generally empty and require little interaction with other humans. Over the course of the next 3-4 months, I dove head in and learned everything I needed to start up my business with as little resources as possible. I learned how to use my camera, market myself, reach out to clients, help my clients grow their business, and most importantly how to keep my business growing long-term. My first ever client came from cold calling homeowners to see if they needed any assistance in marketing their properties. Throughout the 2 years that I have been doing this I never once stopped learning and that is what has allowed my business to keep growing. The photography has and always will be fun but learning how to get connected, market yourself, and find new opportunities are some of the most important lessons I’ve learned through my business.
Today my business is still growing and has a long way to go but I am happy to say in two years I have been able to upgrade all of my gear to offer every service my clients could possibly need and have worked with luxury real estate companies, international marketing companies, hotels, small businesses, UCF, and many more amazing projects.
Till this day I am happy I was able to turn my passion into a business and every time I go out to shoot, I feel my grandfather’s spirit with me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle I faced was a lack of knowledge. Without any formal photography background, I had to find all the information myself through YouTube, courses, and other great photographers. Many of my other struggles were due to a lack of money to have proper equipment but I never saw it as a major issue as I knew with time, I would get what I needed.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I have always been very curious, reserved, and detail-oriented. I come across as shy at first but it is simply because I am observing and trying to get the best understanding of my environment. I loved soccer growing up and it shaped who I am today largely. Sports allowed me to become social and tap into my compassion for others. I was always a team player and wanted the best for my teammates on and off the field. My curiosity led me to love learning. I did well in school and always found myself wanting to learn skills that could help me down the road or that seemed fun. This was how I discovered photography during my senior year of HS. In my final year of HS, I broke my leg which led me to be sidelined for the rest of the season. Instead of laying around and watching TV I learned how to pick up a camera and went to all the games and took pictures of my team. Similarly, I learned many other skills that have proven to be helpful in my business such as how to grow a business, entrepreneurship, and excel.
