Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Macinski of Skate World Leesburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Macinski.

Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Skate World Leesburg began with a dream and a young man who believed in the power of creating joy for others.

My father, Scott, first fell in love with skating right here in this building while working at the rink as a high school student. That early passion carried him forward into an opportunity to help open EPCOT at Walt Disney World, where he spent several years learning what it truly meant to create unforgettable guest experiences.

In 1984, the original rink owner approached him with a life-changing question: Would you want to buy Skate World? At just a young age, my father took a leap of faith and invested everything he had into a business that many considered to be struggling. But he didn’t see a dying rink — he saw possibility.

Through hard work, heart, and an unwavering belief in family entertainment, he transformed Skate World into a thriving community hub. What was once fading became a place filled with laughter, birthday parties, school field trips, glow skates, camps, and lifelong memories.

Now in 2025, Skate World Leesburg stands as a true legacy business — hosting skate camps, daily skating sessions, and welcoming generations of families year after year.

Although we lost Scott this year, his spirit lives on in every roll of the wheels and every smile that walks through our doors. His wife Mary and daughter Megan are proud to carry forward his vision, ensuring that Skate World continues to be a place where families gather, traditions are made, and joy never stops rolling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth — but every challenge only strengthened our resolve.

Over the years, we’ve weathered more than our fair share of storms — literally. We’ve had hurricanes damage our building, flooding throughout the rink, and even a time when our roof was so badly destroyed that we had to place kiddie pools across the skating floor just to catch the rainwater so we could keep our doors open for our community.

There were moments when closing would have been the easier option. But Skate World has never been about taking the easy road — it’s about showing up for families who count on us, kids who find confidence on eight wheels, and generations who grew up here and now bring their own children through our doors.

We’ve also faced heartbreak beyond the building itself — including the loss of dreams that were once within reach, dreams we still hope to one day bring to life.

Every setback taught us something: how to rebuild, how to persevere, and how to lead with heart. Through hurricanes, floods, and unimaginable personal loss, we continue to stand — not because it’s easy, but because Skate World is more than a business. It’s a legacy, and we’re committed to protecting it for the generations still to come.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Skate World Leesburg is more than a roller rink — it’s a family legacy and a community cornerstone.

We specialize in creating safe, fun, memory-filled experiences for all ages. From daily public skating sessions and themed glow nights to birthday parties, school field trips, fundraisers, and our popular skate camps, we offer year-round roller skating designed to bring families together off their screens and onto the rink.

What truly sets us apart is our heart for people. This isn’t a corporate chain — it’s a hands-on, family-run business where guests are greeted by name, kids are encouraged, and families are treated like they belong here — because they do.

Our team focuses on teaching confidence through skating. For many children, their first time standing on skates happens on our floor. Watching them fall, rise, and finally glide is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. We don’t just teach skating — we help build courage, resilience, and joy.

Generations have grown up here, and now they bring their own children back to Skate World. That generational connection, combined with our commitment to community events, themed nights, and affordable family entertainment, is what makes Skate World Leesburg truly one of a kind.

We don’t just operate a rink — we protect a legacy, serve our town, and create moments that families remember for a lifetime.

What does success mean to you?
A few years ago, I probably would have answered this question with numbers, growth, or milestones.

Today, my definition of success is different.

Success to me is honoring my father’s legacy and making him proud. It’s walking into SkateWorld each day knowing that the business he poured his heart into is still a place filled with laughter, opportunity, and community. It’s protecting what he built, serving families the way he did, and leading with the same integrity, grit, and love that he modeled.

If I can continue to grow Skate World in a way that reflects his values and keeps his dream alive, then I know I am succeeding — no matter what the numbers say.
