Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolas Formisano.
Hi Nicolas, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents moved our family from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Miami when I was just two years old. Growing up my father was always working in different restaurants and even taking me to work whenever possible. I decided to move to Sanford at 19 and found a job at Red Lobster serving tables while attending college. I started my career as an automotive technician and quickly found myself missing the food industry. My father at the time was unhappy with his job, so I convinced him to make the move to central Florida & start a food truck business with me. We both quit our jobs and in just six weeks Tango01 Food Truck was up and running. This year we celebrated five amazing years in business and have now decided to open a brick-and-mortar location in Ormond Beach Florida.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’m a very glass-half-full kind of person & although it hasn’t been a completely smooth road, I always tell myself it could be worse. I think I speak for most food truck owners when I say COVID was the biggest hurdle to overcome. At the time it seemed like every week the rules would change on where you could set up and how you were allowed to do business. Luckily, we have a very loyal customer base and they kept us busy enough to pay the bills during the pandemic.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tango01 Food Truck?
Tango01 Food Truck started as a father-son project. We’ve slowly grown our business organically through good consistent food and service. We’re best known for our Chimichurri sauce & our empanadas. I think what sets us apart from others is our dedication to good service. We make it a point to get to know our customers, learn their names and chat with them. Yes, we’re a food truck but when you order from us, we want you to feel like you’re a guest in our home and we hope to accomplish the same with our restaurant.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
None of this would be possible without the loyalty of our customers first and foremost. My family and my girlfriend have been huge supporters and always willing to lend a hand. Shout out to Tony from Saigon Sizzle for always being a phone call away. Just the food truck community in general, we’re all like family.
