Hidden Gems: Meet NyAsia Baker of Kiss the Chef Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to NyAsia Baker.

Hi NyAsia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Entering young adulthood, I struggled to find my niche. In college, I changed my major many times and over the course of several years, I realized that maybe that route was not for me.

During the course of me taking classes, I worked at a restaurant in Virginia for about 5 years as both a server and a bartender. I would always catch myself in the kitchen, watching the chefs create our signature dishes… taking mental notes about how they prepared the food, how they garnished it, and asking them questions just out of curiosity.

Eventually, I went home and practiced on my own, cooking became a relaxation technique for me. I realized that this was something I loved to do. I would host small get-togethers at my home and I would cook for my family and friends. The feedback I got from them was great.

They urged me to take my talents to the next level. About a year after that, I formed Kiss the Chef Catering LLC.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe the path to entrepreneurship is never easy. There’s no manual to tell you exactly how to run your business. For me, I’ve had to learn through trial and error. Establishing your business is the easy part, operating it on a day-to-day basis is a little challenging.

I wear many hats at Kiss the Chef Catering. Essentially, I am my own personal assistant, marketing director, accountant, and chef of course. It can be a bit easy to get lost in the sauce LOL.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kiss the Chef Catering?
Kiss the Chef Catering provides Event Catering and Personal Chef Services to Orlando and surrounding areas. We help make special events memorable and strive to take care of our clients.

When you book with us it is more than simply hiring a caterer or chef we want to get to know our clients which ultimately helps us put together an amazing meal that everyone is sure to enjoy. We love bringing smiles to our client’s faces while cooking from the heart.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I would say that I didn’t always love cooking! Most people know me for cooking almost every day, creating meals from scratch, etc.

But my mom will tell you, a child she would always try to get me to come into the kitchen while she was cooking and I would literally run away. Raw meat disgusted me, I didn’t even want to look at it until it was cooked.

Clearly, I got over that fear and I’m glad I did because cooking has taken me on quite an eventful journey.
